Saint-Remy is the second-largest city in the province of Beaulac. The city has a population of 5.4 million (2006 est.) and with 12,855,242 (2004 census) living in the metropolitan area including the cities of Montmorency, Lévis, Hull, and Gatineau, it is also Kelssek's seventh-largest metropolitan area.
The town grew up around the Saint-Remy citadel, which was built in the 14th century to guard the heartlands of the Guedian Kingdom against attacks by ships sailing up the Frontenac river. The complex, incorporating a castle keep and a riverside fortress, is a national heritage site. Saint-Remy's economy is built upon banking, aircraft manufacturing, and tourism from visitors to the medieval cathedrals and buildings which exist in the city, such as the Chateau Frontenac (right). About a million visitors also brave the cold every January to participate in the city's famous Winter Festival.
Transportation
The Réseau de transport du Saint-Remy is responsible for running the city's extensive Metro, tram and bus systems. Saint-Remy is a hub for the provincial Autoroute highway system, and is served by Via and KN Rail for inter-city railways through the Gare du Palais station. The main airport is Colin Mochrie International, which is a secondary hub for Kelssek Pacific Airlines and served 30 million passengers in 2006.
Media
Le Soliel is the main French daily newspaper, while the Saint-Remy Tribune is the main English paper. Saint-Remy is also a centre for movie production and filming.
Education
Saint-Remy is home to several component institutions of the Université du Beaulac, including the comprehensive Université du Beaulac à Saint-Remy as well as the more specialised Institut national de la recherche scientifique.
