Climate and Geography
The climate ranges from subartic in the north to tropical in the south. Most of the nation has a temperate climate with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. The nation is situated on a rather large island roughly the size of Japan. Prominent mountain ranges run along the western coast while pristine beaches can be found in the east. The jungles that thrive in the south contain are rich assortment of wildlife and are protected by law. In the north, the tundra is likewise protected by law and a current drive to reintroduce wildlife to the region is underway.
People
The diversity in geography, climate, and historical backgrounds insures that the Shanagolian people have a wide array of cultural identities. The people are considered highly compassionate and peaceloving. This translates itself into the foreign policy of the government. The tradition of hospitality and family and personal honor still linger strong in the culture. Sword duels are still quite common in order to settle disagreements though they are no longer fought to the death.
Religion
Religion also plays an important role in the lives of most Shanagolians. There are two native reliigons: Plajal and Etpaix. Plajal is the oldest existing religion in Shanagolia. It has its roots in the writings of Jal et-Hyi from circa 800 BCE. Etpaix is a more recent religion that combines the significant traits of Islam, Chriatianity, Judaism, and Buddhism into one faith. Its origins still remain a mystery though it is often credited to merchants who adapted the different faiths for economic benfits.
