Snow Fall Day, Dec. 2, is an annual holiday celebrated in Miervatia Mikitivity observing the day that international atmospheric scientist Joseph Rainer photographed the first snowflake in Verstair. In addition to acknowledging the science and art involved with Rainer's work, the holiday has become associated with the beginning of the Christmas season in Miervatia. Though the canton is high enough in elevation that there is no official first snowfall, the holiday is often used to mark the beginning of full scale operations of many Thuvian ski lodges.

Snow Fall Day is a tranquil holiday that has only minor commerical attachments. It is considered a day of reflection, and gift giving is frowned upon. However, it is traditional for Miervatians to send hand made paper snowflakes to loved ones.

Celebrations in Miervatia

In Verstair, Mikitivity, the entire village is decorated with paper snowflakes, that slowly melt away in the moisture of the snow. Mikitivity Bahn operates special free SchneeBahnen from Miervatia City to Verstair to carry festival goers to the some village. The SchneeBahnen leave early in the morning and did not leave Verstair again until after midnight. As an official cantonal holiday, all non-critical cantonal offices are shut down on Dec. 2.

Celebrations outside of Miervatia

Snow Fall Day is also celebrated in some villages in Nolanstadt and Aslan, but it is not considered an official holiday by those cantons. Even many ski lodges in southern Mikitivity's Solace mountains consider Snow Fall Day to be the official beginning of the ski season.
