The Dominion of Snowcat is one of the largest and oldest members of the FurNation region, and indeed in Nation States. This nation is so ancient that its founding is not even recorded in historical records. It is a massive, safe nation, notable for its wide ranging individual freedoms, complete absence of social welfare and stunning environment. Military service is mandatory for all citizens. Its large and modern forces are especially adept at infiltration and subversion operations[2].
The government has been a benevolent dictatorship that does not allow any political activity, though recently this has begun to change under the auspices of economic developmental necessity. The government's priorities are Defence, Education, and the Environment. The private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry. The nation's powerful economy, vibrant and strong culture and large military allow it to dominate the region as shown by its victory over Ryza in the Great War.
The government is atheistic and claims it must remain so in order to allow the maximum spiritual freedom for its citizens[3]. All aspects of society are voluntary to participate in except for military service.
The nation follows a policy of sustainable economic development and growth wherein natural resource depletions are not allowed. Another cornerstone of the Dominion and its economy is an emphasis on education and research. The Dominion supports a well funded space exploration and exploitation program. The Dominion recently embarked on a military space program at great expense to the government to establish the Orbital Defense Forces, a department within the Strategic Rocketry Corp. The Dominion's medical research sector is sometimes hampered by lack of volunteers for clinical research[4].
The Salmon is a native animal to the Dominion, and as such, is an integral part of Snowcat culture for both personal and traditional aspects[5].
The Dominion is currently in the midst of an energy enhancement program to reduce the use of hydrocarbon fuels in favor of renewable and sustainable energy[6] such as geothermal, wind and solar power. Air and water quality have nearly returned back to preindustrial levels. Climatic warming continues to be a problem due to previous high levels of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere and ongoing urban sprawl reducing vegetation.
