History
Beginnings
The Republic was first created back in 850 AC by a tribe of highly evolved humans. Their skills in architecture and economy allowed them to create a paradise for the tribe, but in 891 AC a barbariant tribe raided the town, capturing the ancient golden sponge, a relic, made around 5 AC by unknown hands, that had been the symbol of the Spongeyland citizens.
After the raid, the citizens decided to protect their country by taming Metroids, a common bioform found around the Spongeyland plains, and turning them into powerful allies. After several years of Metroid studies, the scientists found that Metroids absorved the energy off living beings to survive, but there was no way to harness the energy within them.
Recovery of the Golden Sponge
In year 1014 AC, the scientists finally found a way to use Metroids as energy sources. They could be used to power lights, small MagLev trains and many more things, but it was until 1057 AC that the Spongeyland scientists could finally use the Metroid's nearly endless supply of energy to power hi-tech photon cannons (MPPCs).
After the creation of the Metroid-powered photon cannons, the Spongeyland army (composed of 1570 men and 500 MPPCs) recovered the idol without many deaths on any side (only 24 Spongeyland men and 31 barbarian rebels died during the war). After recovering the ancient artifact, the Spongeyland citizens decided to concentrate on building defensive structures, like Metroid-powered vigilance turrets (MPVTs) and Quads (composed of a head and a body that could work together or separatedly) and took the MPPC blueprints to a secret underground bunker.
The Civil War
On 1821, the Spongeyland citizens had to fight their worst enemy yet: themselves. The rebels attempted to reverse-engineer many of the strongest defense mechanisms, with no avail. A small army of Metroids quickly made the rebels surrender, ending the civil war incredibly fast and allowing the president to continue building a strong country without much rebel pressure.
The Spongeyland National Hymn
On 1962 AC, the Spongeyland citizens found out about a new rock band from Liverpool, wich quickly filled the houses with their music, wich was relaxing and inspired the population to ask the president for a new article in the constitution. That article expressed that there would be elections whenever the president considered it was tiem to engage in a war, and reduced the money invested in it. This led to the pacificatino of Spnogeyland, but it still retained its Armed Republic title since it still was a force to be reckoned with during the wars.
Some years later after the liverpoolian band officially disbanded, the Spongeyland citizens got their chance to listen to a very special song by an ex-member of the band wich talked about the war, hunger, and imagining a better world.
The citizens then signed a petition to make that song the national hymn, so the gobernment paid the copyright fees for life and changed the national hymn to that song.
Spongeyland Today
Today, the great innovations in the technology allow people to move around the country by using small tunnels that can be accessed by using the newely discovered Morph Ball technology. No augmentations have been made to it for now, but there is a secret project going in the secret bunker wich is codenamed "Project Crawler", wich involves a new, never-before-seen mechanism.
1155 years after the creation of the country, the Spongeyland citizens agreed to join the Megadoomer Union of Nations and sent they application to the Union. It has yet to be approved.
