Current Overview
The Democratic Republic of Syayrien Union is a tiny, devout nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape & compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion. They are also known throughout the region for their efficiency and work ethic, as well as their general suspicion of leisure.
The large government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Religion & Spirituality, and Healthcare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 22%. A large private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Door-to-door Insurance Sales and Gambling.
Voting is voluntary, meat is a luxury afforded only to the wealthy, and organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Syayrien Union's national animal is the Hound and its currency is the Shoe.

History
Discovered in the 3rd Century by Pirates.The local populace was quickly subjected to cruelty and rape. Conquest by Vampires and a Peace Treaty changed all that.
Both the Vampires and the Pirates had large fleets but small armies.The Vampires had help from Warswolves and Witch Doctors. They came and slaughted all the Pirates and renamed it: Syayrien
For Centuries, the Vampires ruled but the beginning of the end was near. Napoleon Bonaparte had wanted power and had quickly allied with Syayrien. By the time The Napoleonic Wars came the Syayrien Military had joined forces with Napoleon and was rapidly making their way toward Europe. By 1812, when Napoleon unsucessfully invaded Russia the Syayrien Military had by now exhausted all its resources.
The end of the War marked the end of Vampire rule. Between 1815 and 1821, rebellions sprung up all over the country. Eventually the Vampires fled in 1821. The country of Syayrien now began an age of Self-Rule. The first era was led by an unknown but famous Military General who proceeded to rebuild both its forces and its policies.
During the next few years, it allied themselves with Germany and had several Military Rulers. During World War 1, they fought against the British but lost. Afterwards a second Civil War broke out which lasted from 1918 to 1930. In the end, democracy won.
In 1930, the last of the Military Government fled. Their second attempt at Self-Rule began in earnest. By 1939, they had new policies and had rebuilt both their Military and their policies. They also had a new air force. Then World War 2 began. The Syayrien Union, as they had renamed themselves, quickly allied with Britain and fought against Hitler and his evil hordes. After the War ended, they had proved themselves worthy of a place in the new UN.
During the Cold War, they helped the Americans spy on the Soviets who quickly became suspicious of The Syayrien Union. In 1960, the Hound,which have been around for many centuries, became their National Animal. In late May of that year, their region with the help of The new world empire, created the region of The New Roman Empire.
After the Cold War ended, a new currency was created: the Shoe. In the 1999, a national plauge broke out, which wiped millions upon millions of Citizens out. They quickly ordered Military Conscription and declared themselves a Democratic Republic.
