T.R. Cairo born September 19, 1954 is the current president of the Colony of Magna Cartman. He is the nation's fourth president since the fall of the monarchy in 1904. The most peculiar thing about President Cairo is his secrecy regarding his full name.

T.R. Cairo is quite an intimidating man to look at, he stands 6'5" and is extremely muscular. He has an interesting sense of humour and enjoys a good joke along with Beta Bug Juice.

The Beginning

T.R. Cairo was born to Janice and Phillip Cairo in Elante City as an only child. He was educated at government schools and at the age of 18 left home to study law at the Magna Cartman National University in Neptune. It was during this time he becamevery passionate about the Magna Cartman Constitution.

After graduation

T.R. graduated first in class, and was immediately given a job at McPhearst Law in Neptune in 1976. He began as a humble solicitor, but after just 6 months in the job became an impassioned constitutional expert, often advising then president Johns Petersham on constitutional matters.

When President Petersham mysteriously disappeared on 12 November 1978, T.R. was extremely upset. He then vowed to run for president to continue Petersham's legacy.

1978 Election

At the election on 21 November, 1978 T.R. Cairo gained a large 76% of the vote once preferences were allocated. This assured his victory and he took office on 21 December, 1978.

He became the youngest man ever to become president aged just 24.

1978 - 1988

Cairo's first 10 years in office went well. He continued Petersham's work in the areas of health, education and crime reduction. He also relaxed the compulsary national service section of the constitution, surprising, considering his love with the nation's founding document.

In 1984, civil unrest broke out in the south of the nation claiming that the decision by all city and regional councils to hand policing power to the nation was made by the president threatening them with military action. This could never be proven.

1988 - 1998

This decade was mainly characterised by Cairo's liberal views on the world. Gay marriage was made legal, discrimination laws introduced, the national defence act overhauled and university education made free for all who wished to attend.

1998 - present

This has been the most difficult of Cairo's presidency. Many conservatives have regularily staged protests with regards to national policy and increasingly, many Magna Cartman's have been pushing for a representative government.

1998 was also the year of the Magna Cartman economic crisis, caused mainly be instability in the large financial centre of Elante, following the death of their long-serving mayor (replaced by P.J. Longhorn shortly after). Cairo managed by introducing higher taxes to get the nation back into the black and out of debt within 2 years.

On March 29, 2001 for the first time since Cairo took office, Magna Cartman News Network polls showed a slump in his approval rating down to 42%. It has continued in steady decline since.

Early in 2005, P.J. Longhorn a longtime friend of Cairo, held a referrendum in Elante asking whether or not they should break free from the dictatorship style government and form a representative government. A week later Sigma, Miniton Region and Astron followed suit aas the Democratic War began.

There are now increasing calls for Cairo to introduce a representative government, which he has dismissed claiming they would murder the constitution. The Democratic War has also placed pressure on him for cutting the military budget to pay for health and education.
