The Anachronism is the prinicple and founding nation of The Floating Isles. The Anachronism itself can only be describied as a flying island, on which people have settled and made there home. Numerous propellers and similar devices dotted around the edge of the island alow the Anachronism to float around the world, migrating because of seasons, trade or war.
Early History
From the 1860s onwards, after the invention and development of aerostatical vehicles, early explorers on such devices discovered a group of islands floating by unknow means a mile above there ground. When news of these islands spread, peoples form across the world settled on the largest of the Islands, making it there home free from oppression and prejudice. Early settlers did not abuse the reasources of the island, instead using the gondolas of their vessels to live in.
When the population reach appoximately 1 million, the island was recognised as it's own nation. By that time, it's technology had became outdated and adapted, giving it the title of "Anachronism" (a name which the residents cherished and adopted officially). Until them, most of the country was controlled by small guilds (each opperating their own area of expertise). When the Ananchronism was declared a country, the largest guild was selected as the new government - the Aeronaughts Guild. Since then, it has ceased to be so focussed, however the title of Admiral remained for all leaders of the Anachronism.
Tourism and the Exodus
Being a flying island, the Anachronism began to make large amounts of money from the growing tourism industry. Soon however, the adverse effects the tourists had on the envirnoment was being noticed - until the government decided that they could no longer allow any tourists to the country. With the money ammassed, they traded parts and resources the construct the massive Guild-City which now serves as the nations capital. The city was a massive construction, using 6 cog-driven propellers the city itself gained flight.
The Guild-City then led the way for the whole island, which moved in secret from all other nations across the world. Not wanting any more tourists, or worse: pirates, to damage their country they only stayed in places long enough to trade - even then finding secluded tracts of water or moutains adn sending out fleets of their own aerostats.
