The Overwhelmed Gardens of The Beans is an ever growing nation, until now only stopped in its expansion drift by vegetarians and a lack of bumblebees. It is not sure whether this expansion can continue infinitely, but the vast, unknown expanses of the region, Subconsciousness, have not brought up any obstacle up to this day.

Inhabitants

The native inhabitants of The Beans are called Beans. Related to species in other nations, Beans are very strange creatures as they would be defined as plants, but then walking and having lungs. For their breeding process, they entirely rely on bumblebees.

History

Physicists, physicians, paleontologists and archaeologists have not yet come to a uniform agreement on how the Beans came into existence. A legend tells that a very old pet bumblebee of Oria, the creator of all life, got lost due to its dementia and stumbled upon a bean stake. Due to exhaustion, it thought the bean stake was an evil creature and took to its stinger in an ultimate attempt to defend itself. But the combination of the venom of the holy bumblebee and the innocent plant juices had a very surprisingly reaction. It bestowed intelligent life upon the bean stake and gave it the ability to walk and breath with lungs. True or not, the favorite pastime of the Beans is still standing in a pool of mud barefoot.

More is known about the early days of The Beans. The first Beans were monks worshipping Oria. Looking out for a place to build their monastery, they travelled all around the world, keeping to the shadows as their numbers were low. Finally they stumbled upon the vast, distant and unknown worlds of Subconsciousness, where they settled down: The Holy Empire of The Beans was born.

As the dwellings started to flourish, other peoples were attracted. However, they soon felt threatened by the fast growing empire of the Beans. This was the cause of the first major (and up to now only) uproar in the history of The Beans: the Subconscious Revolution. In an attempt to escape from the influence of The Beans, the neighboring peoples joined forces and left to find a faraway place for themselves. A part of the The Beans' population, mostly of the younger generations, fed up with some of the restrictions imposed upon them, joined the conspiracy and constituted The Colony of The Marionettes, sarcastically referring to the omnipresent way of ruling of The Beans.

Another important event is marked by the change of name of the empire. During the course of time the population of The Beans filled all the space between the walls of the monastery, while the inhabitants were diverted to other than religious occupations more and more. Therefor the firm decision was taken that everyone who was not a monk had to live outside the monastery. The old name of the empire was now inconvenient, for the majority of the population was not concerned with performing holy rites and so a more convenient name was chosen: The Overwhelmed Gardens of The Beans. However, their devotion to the supernatural is still being shown in their motto.

Culture

Religion plays an important role in every Bean's life. It might not always be very clearly visible, but in principle all actions of a Bean have a religious underground. For a Bean beliefs that all creatures on the world are put on that world to care for it together and that one cannot do without the other. So everyone is welcome in The Beans, even in the worst of circumstances, and help will always be given if asked for. It also means that Beans have utter disgust for everything related to weapons.

For everyday life in The Beans, this means that there is no limit on taxes (everything is needed to take care of the world) and profits are watched with contempt (although it is a matter of time before it will be taxed off). Anyway, nobody really needs money, because the state pays for everything. That is also the reason for the stake being the currency of The Beans: the only thing really desired by any Bean is a good stake to lean on to rest his body.

Another important issue in The Beans is that you have to think before you do. This is trained extensively in the schools all over the country that are run by monks. Naturally, understanding of the world is also an important subject in school classes.

Surprisingly enough, there are, except for a few rites and religious festivals, not many traditions in The Beans: everything can be discussed and changed if it makes the world a better place.

Did you know that ...

  • The Beans has only one monastery.
  • The monastery is named Oriarum.
  • The monastery can be visited any time of the day.
  • The Beans religion is called Flourism.
  • Beans love to live on top of each other: their flats are really high.
  • Bumblebees have more rights than Beans.
  • Rumors go that there is a secret lab below the monastery; if there is any, nobody knows its purpose.
