The Republic of the Enigmatic Nation is unique in that the entire land mass of the island is artificial. This allows the country to expand along with the population. The landscape has been crafted to suit the tastes of the Enigmatics. Forests, plains, and beaches. The Nation was founded by Christopher Ainissesthai and the band of disenchanted souls he lead. Financing the endeavor himself from his own considerable fortune he created a land where he and those he lead could live in peace. Today the people enjoy excellent political freedoms and good civil rights, though certain civil rights have been sacrificed for the sake of order and stability. For the first few decades of it's existence, the Republic existed as a semi-monarchical government. Christopher Ainissesthai was the countries first and only monarch known as the Grand Enigmatic. Now the government is a democratic republic. Enigmatics are a cultured people valuing wisdom, intelligence, and rational thinking. They are however a people of faith. The majority of the country practices some form of the Christian religion. The country is not without its problems. Most notable a government controlled media keeps the populace in the dark about certain government and national goings-on. What the media does report; however, is considered to be some of the most factually accurate and unbiased reporting in the world. The government is at a national level comprised of the chief-of-state, the Archon; the Enigmatic Senate; and the Congress of 500. On a local level the country is divided into municipalities governed by Consuls. The Nation, and the Republic, is viewed as a single unified state as symbolized by the single star design of their flag.

All hostilities between the Republic and the Empire of Blacens have ceased following the collapse of the Blacens government. Life in Aspera Major is returning to normal for the Colonies, though there still remains a threat from rouge ex-Blaceni. The situation on Taco Island has not improved; however. The chaos caused by the Blacen attacks has not subsided. The various "counting gangs" have risen up in open hostilities against one another for dominance. Furthermore the the Star Party and the Taco Party, the two largest political parties on the island (though they share characteristics with a political cult), have declared Holy War against one another. It remains to be seen, if Taco Island will ever return to it's former state as a peaceful paradise.

The Republic may be viewed as a single entity but it does comprise several sub-entities.

Leadership

Overall--Supreme Commander Silas DuGalle

Army--Master General Michael Allstead

Navy--Grand Admiral Lucas Cromer

Air Force--Chief Marshall Alexander Cummings

Star Command--High Commodore Sergey Thomas

The Military Authority of the Enigmatic Legion is collective term applied to the military of the Republic. This includes the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and a new space force: the Star Command. They are headquartered on the Isle of Paradox off the coast of the Enigmatic Nation. As with the main island the land mass is entirely artificial. The terrain is entirely urban with several bio-domes dotting the landscape where environmental conditions can be controlled for military training in a variety of conditions and on varying terrain. Most details about the Legion are unknown to the world and the Enigmatic populace at large. It is likely that if they did know exactly what was going on, the Legions actions and policies would not be tolerated. Genetic engineering is the norm. Many children are designed in the womb to fill a variety of roles. They are taken at an early age to undergo intense training. Everyone is utilized in some way. If an individual is deemed unfit for duty in one area they are trained for another. The Legion has it's own industry and is almost entirely self-funded. It functions much like a military dictatorship. Each branch has a single command officer, who report to the Legion Supreme Commander. The Supreme Commander's only authority consists of the highest echelons of the Republic government. Most of the time the politicians stay out of military affairs so the Legion can function at it's peak. The Legion is quite meritocratic; no one is promoted beyond their ability. The supreme commander selects all branch commanders and may remove and install commanders when warranted. When the time comes for a new supreme commander to be chosen, the four branch commanders along with the Archon and his Secretaries of War and Defense appoint the new supreme commander. Usually the new supreme commander is one of the branch commanders though there have been exceptions. Most of the revenue the Legion collects is poured into defense and law and order, but there is also a great deal of money spent on health care.

It should be noted that the Star Command force operating in Aspera Major is called the Colonial Defense Force and operates in near autonomy; taking the majority of it's orders from the Enigmatic Colonies.

Colonial Governor William Jansen (Former Commodore of the Galactic Expeditionary Fleet)

The Enigmatic Colonies were founded fairly recently by the men and women of the Galactic Expeditionary Fleet in the far off galaxy of Aspera Major. There are many colonial worlds united under a federation government administered by the Colonial Governor, his cabinet, and the Colonial Assembly. The Colonies are in many ways like the Nation; however, the distance from the seat of government has already caused differences to manifest and is sure to cause tension in the future as each society develops independent of the other. The great distances involved also means that the Colonies operate in semi-autonomy but they are required to pay taxes and ship the majority of their exportable goods back to the Enigmatic Nation.
