Brief Overview

The Corporation of Theodonesia is a nation dedicated to freedom, both personal and economic, at every expense. The twin blessings of a minimalist government and a booming economy combine to make Theodonesia the most economically powerful nation in the Greenhouse region.

Geography and Demographics

Theodonesia is the most populous country in the Greenhouse region as well as the largest in land area (NOTE: Ithiaxa's total land area is now larger when one includes the annexed portions of Klabama). Theodonesia, located on the Eastern portion of the Greenhouse continent, is almost completely surrounded by water save a small land border with Aredith in the West.

Government

The miniscule, nearly-nonexistent Government operates smoothly and efficiently on a small budget under the same rules and financial principles as a nonprofit corporation. For the most part, the Government's sole authority is to assure the nation's continued existance through the most economical and practical means possible. Military and police protection in times of peace are powers dedicated to the several provinces of Theodonesia; the federal government does not possess the right to field a standing army during times of peace. Theodonesia is a very politically isolationist state in that it has not fought a single war since its conception.

The Theodonesian government spends 71% of its budget on the encouragement and regulation of commerce. Nearly all commerce in Theodonesia takes place in the private sector and outside of governmental regulation; however, the Commerce budget is necessary to enforce Theodonesia's corporate laws and prevent corporate wrongdoing. The rest of Theodonesia's budget (29%) is spent on educational facilities: schools, universtities, public libraries, and research facilities. Educational spending on the part of the Theodonesian government is a slight deviation from its policy of complete laissez-faure capitalism; however, Theodonesia as a nation realizes that it must sacrifice perfect capitalism in the interest of allowing people the opportunity for social mobility (necessary for maintaining worker loyalty to Capitalism), as well as maintaining a competitive technological edge on the global economic market.

Economy

Theodonesia, as previously stated, has a tradition as the most economically powerful nation in Greenhouse. Although in the past two years Ithiaxa has surpassed Theodonesia in economic production as a result of Ithiaxan military conquests and a slight economic downturn in Theodonesia, Theodonesia's economy is nonetheless highly robust.

Combined with a natural abundance of Uranium deposits, laws permitting private sale of weapons and/or other military materials with neighboring nations have allowed the Uranium Mining industry to balloon into Theodonesia's largest and most profitable industry today. Other exceptionally strong industries include the Automobile Manufacturing industry and the Beef-Based Agriculture industry. In the past, Beef-Based Agriculture has been Theodonesia's largest industry, but the rapid urbanization of the greater part of Southern Theodonesia has consumed large amounts of cattle rangeland and pushed grazing herds farther to the North. Some farmers have also crossed the border into Aredith.

Theodonesia's economy has grown consistantly along with the nation's growth, accentuated by governmental support of a free market and lack of foreign or domestic unrest within Theodonesia's borders. However, as Theodonesia has grown, so also has the gap between the rich and the poor. In the past three decades, Theodonesia's middle class has shrunk by about 20%, the working class has burgeoned, and the amount of total wealth controlled by the top 1% of income earners has increased to 71% as of last year's census. Despite the unequal distribution of wealth, however, the standard of living is still relatively high in Theodonesia as a lack of taxes or expensive government legislation and a slowing rate of population growth allow employers to keep wages at a reasonable level.

Foreign Relations

Theodonesian foreign relations can only be characterized as "isolationist". Theodonesia maintains formally cordial relations with all of its local neighbors (Avalaria, Ithiaxa, Klabama, and Aredith) as well as its non-local neighbors. Theodonesia is just as averse to forming binding alliances as it is to waging war. The only nation with which Theodonesia is locked in an alliance is Aredith, its protectorate.
