Introduction

Thermolia is a small island nation in the region of Tundra. The island is located in the middle of the Roberts Sea. The nation is renowned for it’s unique government and it’s challenging racetracks. A relatively small nation, Thermolia is a major Political, Economic, and Military power in the region. Co-founder of the United Tundra Defense Alliance, Thermolia provides 45% of the funding of the regional military organization. Thermolia is also the founding nation of TARSCAR, and the main office for the racing organization is in the Thermolian Capital of Monroe City.

Thermolia is home of the Word Renowned Thermolian Proving Grounds. These are a set of 9 racetracks that were built near an automotive plant in the 1950’s to test new cars. The Thermolia Racing Commission bought the racetracks from Monroe Autos in 1963 and converted the test tracks into the largest racing complex in the region. There are 9 permanent facilities on the Proving Grounds, and each track can be configured into another 73 tracks.

History

===Glaucomian Era=== The Glaucomian Empire was expanding on mainland Tundra during the latter part of the first Millennia AD. Part of their expansion was a small island in the middle of the Roberts Sea. In 934, the first Glaucomians landed on the small island, and started a colony. They named their colony Thermolia. The Glaucomian Empire continued to send people to the colony, but by the beginning of the 11th century, they aborted their colonization plans due to the distance that the island was from the mainland. Several thousand of the colonists returned to the mainland after the Glaucomians left, but a small part stayed to live on the island. These people came to be known as Thermolians. ===Tribal Era=== The Thermolians were not the only inhabitants of the island. They were one of 5 tribes that had societies on the island. The Thermolians thrived on the westen portion of the island. To the southeastern part of the island were the Fuquay. The northeastern part of the island belonged to the Varinians. The inhabitants of the central part of the island were the Sippihaw, they were the largest tribe. The smallest tribe was the Lambonians, who were on the far eastern shore of the island. From the departure of the Glaucomians, all 5 tribes had pretty good relations and had free trade among themselves. The tribes also valued their independence.

===Unification=== In the early 12th century, the Thermolians wanted to unite the island, to build up an empire of their own to compete with the Glaucomians. However, the other tribes on the island were not interested in uniting. So, the Thermolians took control of the island. The Thermolian leader, Alexander Monroe, started to build up the military. After only several months of training, they quickly took over the island, uniting the island in the process. Alexander became the monarch of the island, assumed the title Grand Duke, and called his island nation Thermolia. ===The 500 Years Empire=== After the monarchy assumed power over Thermolia, their main goal was to compete with the largest empire on the mainland, the Glaucomians, economically. They did this very successfully, as their main port, Monroe, became a major stop before ships left the Tundra region. By the early 17th century, Thermolia became the second most powerful economy in the Region. ===The Fuquay-Varina Insurgency=== By the end of the 500 years economic buildup, the upper class got really rich. However, the lower class got really poor. This lower class was made up mainly of the former Fuquay and Varina tribes. In 1643, the tension between the upper class and the lower class came to a head when a Fuquay extremist assassinated Grand Duke Stephen IV in Monroe City. The country broke out into civil war when the Thermolians retaliated against the Fuquay by executing several Fuquay leaders. The leaders that survived joined with the Varinians to get an army together to fight the Thermolians. Several battles occurred over the next four years, but the Fuquay-Varina army never got an advantage to the larger Thermolian army. The war came to an end on March 19, 1648. The Thermolian army surrounded the Fuquay-Varina army in South Bristol. The resulting battle completely destroyed the insurgent army. ===Reconstruction and the Industrial Revolution=== The civil war ravaged the Thermolian economy, and they suffered a very long economic depression during the 18th century. The economy finally turned around with the onset of the Industrial Revolution. Because of the revolution, the Thermolian ship building industry skyrocketed. While the ship building industry grew, the Thermolian Navy grew faster. Thermolia was the first in the region to have steel-hulled ships in their navy, and by the 1860’s, they had the largest navy in the region. Not only did they have the largest navy, they built 75% of the Navies used in the region at that time. ===The Biffle-Thermolia War=== Late in 1873, the Biffle Republic contracted a Thermolian company to build several ships for their navy. The Thermolian company accepted their offer, but backed out of the contract when they heard rumors of the Republic going to war with Thermolian ally Sonic the Hedgehogs. The Republic was not happy with the company and asked the government to disenfranchise the company. When the Thermolian government refused, the Biffle Republic declared war and immediately sent ships to blockade Thermolia’s ports. A bitter standoff went on for 5 months outside the port of Monroe, until Admiral Frank Godfrey found a small weakness in the blockade. He attacked it with all that he had, and was able to break the blockade that was holding back his Navy. Several other battles were fought in the Roberts Sea with little successes by either side. In 1876, the Treaty of Richertville was signed ending the war. Thermolia agreed to continue their military contracts with the Biffle Republic, in exchange of 20 million cumquats and no military operations for a period of 30 years.

===The New Constitution=== In 1902, Grand Duke Jeff II died of a heart attack in his palace in Monroe City. He left no apparent heirs to the throne, and the Thermolians faced anarchy. A convention in Monroe City only 3 weeks after Jeff’s death brought up a constitution for a type of government called the Corporational Legislature. The constitution was ratified and the Board of Directors and a Chief Executive Officer were elected. ===The Great Depression=== In the 1930’s, along with most of the world, Thermolia was stuck in the Great Depression. Profits plummeted and the GDP went from a healthy 250 million cumquats to 73 million. Several government programs to decrease the unemployment rate and increase productivity were created, but the lack of economy in other nations kept Thermolia's economy down. ===The Great Tundra War=== Thermolia was torn out of the depression during the 1940’s with the onset of the Great Tundra War. A conflict between Hendrick4824 and Wrecker exploded into a regional war with several nations joining both sides. Thermolia was not an exception. By 1942, Thermolia joined the Wrecker Alliance against the Hendrick coalition. Thermolia was the major naval force for the Alliance and won several naval battles in the Back Strait. However, by 1944, the war turned into a stalemate and on July 22, 1944, the Treaty of North Tails City (1944) was signed between all nations.

===After War Prosperity=== After the war, the Thermolian economy boomed and by the 1950's, they had the most powerful military in the region. Various confilcts in the 50's prompted Thermolia to approach Sonic the Hedgehogs to create a regional military force to help keep violence to a minimum. The Treaty of North Tails City (1958) created the United Tundra Defense Alliance (UTDA), and Thermolia was and still is one of the major financers of the UTDA.

===Recent History=== For the latter 20th century, Thermolia had some economic gains and falls, but the end of the century sawa 300% growth from the 1950's. The Gambling industry has become the largest industy in Thermolia, and is one of the best in the world. Currently, the Cheif Executive Officer of Thermolia is Kyle Lamb. He was elected in 1999 after Jon Harrison retired after 15 years of service. Thermolia is home to the largest military in the region, and Thermolia is the founder of the regional racing association TARSCAR.

Government

The Thermolian government is a Corporational Legislature. The corporations of Thermolia essentially run the country. ===Legislature=== The Legislative branch of the Thermolian Government is made up of 75 Legislators. These legislators are the Presidents of the top 75 Thermolian companies (determined by yearly profit). The stockholders of a company elect their representative, and the representative has an unlimited term limit. However, the representative may be removed at any time by stockholders. ===Board of Directors=== Every 6 years, on the 6th day of June, the Board of Directors are elected. The citizens of Thermolia elect this board and the board is made up of 12 people. These 12 people are required to be a part of the Legislature at the time of the election, but may not keep their seat after they are elected. The board acts as the Executive Branch of the government. Each member of the Board of Directors are in charge of a department of the Thermolian government and the Board of Directors are similar to the US Cabinet. ====Chief Executive Officer==== The Chief Executive Officer is the leader of the Board of Directors. The citizens elect the CEO exactly 1 year after the Board of Directors is elected and the CEO has a term minimum of 6 years as CEO and 12 years on the Board of Directors. To be eligible to be Chief Executive Officer, the candidate must be on the Board of Directors. Not only is the CEO responsible for his department on the BoD, he also acts as the leader of the Board of Directors. Currently, the CEO of Thermolia is Kyle Lamb, who is the Director of Transportation.
