The History of Tremerica

January 9th 2019 Election

Once again the Socialist Environmentalist Party (SEP) have won a majority government. However many voters, specially the more liberal ones, are angered at new Prime Minister Comrade Yutsin Kackerov, the successor of Comrade Flanckin Musyov, for his strict conservative views. Since forming government Kackerov has allowed some capitalism to enter the country and the government's atheists stance has now been replaced by new age thinking. The ban on cars has been lifted for the first time since Signor, and government-spending is taking a huge cut. Although citizens of Tremerica are praising Kackerov, members of parliament are angered. There have been rumors that the SEP will branch off again into two separate parties. This rumor is fueled by the remarks from MP's about Kackerov's cabinet, which consists of former Conservative Environmentalist.

February 1st, 2019 - Kackerov introduces the Bill

Prime Minister Yutsin Kackerov of the Socialist Environmentalist Party, who continues to introduce and pass conservative bills, have 'bitten the big one' says angered SEP Member of Parliament, Guy Floyd. He is referring to the introduction of currency in Tremerica. For almost ten years Tremerica has cut costs in government budgets by eliminating the production of currency, citizens have resorted to the trading of possessions for monetary gain. However the Kackerov government vows that, 'as soon as the tax rate goes down, we'll introduce bills'. Bills are the new currency that the SEP is introducing into the public. The Bill is paper, and is created from the trees of Tremerica's rainforest. This move is deeply splitting the party and a branch-off is almost inevitable if Kackerov keeps this conservative view up.

February 4th, 2019 - The New Party is Confirmed

Angered at the Kackerov government and its conservative views, the socialist side of the Socialist Environmentalist Party has destroyed the eight year coalition the parties shared. The new party is called The Socialist Alliance. This party contains 43 of the 143 seats the SEP holds. Guy Floyd is the leader of the new party. Prime Minister Yutsin Kackerov's response to this split is 'now we can take the word 'socialist' out of our name'. Kackerov, who is introducing and passing conservative legislation, is not worried about the split, right now, at least. Although Kackerov's party is technically a minority government, Tremerica's parliament only holds 200 seats, which Kackerov has 100 of, and the opposition parties have the other 100. The Speaker of the House, a conservative, can only vote in case of a tie, which seems likely to happen. Also, the Conservative Liberals have 21 seats in Parliament and have been voting for Kackerov's legislation, so a bring down of the government is impossible until 2021. As for a merger between the Conservative Liberals and the SEP, Kackerov says, 'unlikely, but not impossible'. What has kept the two parties at opposites in the past is the Conservative Liberals view of the environment, which is to destroy the rainforest for financial gain.

Politics

Located in the rainforests of the NationStates Communist Party, Tremerica was a newly established country, branched off the West Pacific. Established by Con Signor in 1988, the country soon became a ruthless military dictatorship. Signor, at age 38, would rule until his death at 54, nearly destroying the tropical rainforests. After Signor's death democracy entered the nation. Tremerica adopted a parliamentary system with MPs and an elected Senate. For the next five years Tremerica would take the socialist approach to their economy and lifestyle. The Independent Socialist Party and the Worker's Trust Party won a majority of the seats. Despite the socialist platforms of these parties, civil rights were still low compared to other nations. In 2009 the Conservative Environmentalists party won a minority government. Upon winning, the minority government joined with the smaller Conservative Liberal Party and passed legislation that privatized businesses and focused on preserving the rainforests. In 2011 an election caused the Conservative Environmentalists to lose 38 seats and the Independent Socialist Party gained 54. However, the Worker's Trust Party won the minority government and sought out to abolish the rainforests to rebuild the economy. The Conservative Environmentalists then formed a coalition with the Independent Socialist Party and formed a majority. Since then there have been numerous elections and the coalition government has held onto their power.

Life under Signor

In 1988 when Con Signor took power he immediately outlawed elections and nationalized all business. The economy shattered and living standards were poor for the citizens of Tremerica. For the next 16 years purges were rampant, Signor murdered everyone that was involved with the revolution. The tropical rainforest that Tremerica is known for suffered from dam projects and the mining industry. As for everyday life, the surviving citizens from that era remember not having a clean water source and the lack of housing the general populace had (as many as five families would share a two-room apartment). A positive aspect of Signor's totalitarian state, however, is the free education and free health care all citizens received.

After Signor

After Signor's death in 2004, Signor's brother Chad called for democracy reform. A parliamentary system was established and citizens were now able to vote. By voting in communist governments the rich were taxed heavily and businesses lacked in production compared to other nations in the same region. Living standards increased for the poor and the literacy rate reached 100% by 2007. Despite some of the best political freedoms and civil rights, the economy suffered even worse than it did while under Signor. The deficit means that citizens must rely on the trading of their possessions to survive. This gives producers of food, such as farmers, an upper hand in society. This doesn't remain true to the communist lifestyle and the government has tried, unsuccessfully, to stop the free market. However since the 2006 Election, new Prime Minister Comrade Kackerov has allowed for a freer market and legalized capitalism for the first time in years.

The Environment

Today the Environmentalist Republic of Tremerica remains one of the poorest nations in the region due to its strict environmentalist laws. However it has the richest wildlife and a great environment. The government always puts natures need before humans. Although Tremerica has many natural resources (such as gold and oil), the government refuses to mine these resources due to the rainforest that lays over them. However the environment's future is unknown with Kackerov now in power. Kackerov has vowed to protect the environment and instead of mining oil to create money, he will increase tourism. It is unknown if Kackerov will keep these promises.

Times of Uncertainty

January 9th 2019 Election: The Day That Changed Tremerica Once again the Socialist Environmentalist Party (SEP) have won a majority government. However many voters, specially the more liberal ones, are angered at new Prime Minister Comrade Yutsin Kackerov, the successor of Comrade Flanckin Musyov, for his strict conservative views. The Times-They-Are-A-Changin The United Nations just recently listed Tremerica as a Capitalist Paradise, a shock to all the Communist States in the world. Kackerov, whose legislation has passed more rights for private businesses and less for the workers, has been deeply criticized by the opposition parties. Despite the new laws allowing more consumer goods to shroud the country, Tremerica's GDP per capita still stands roughly at $70. Kackerov's government, which will go to an election later this year, is considering trading with other nations and even mining small areas of Tremerica's rainforest for an economic boost, and an economic boost means a reelection.
