The University of Aqeyr is located in Aqeyr, West Ariddia, also known as the island of Limea. It is sometimes considered to be the only university in the country, which is not entirely accurate. It is the only pluri-disciplinary university in West Ariddia, the others being institutions focused on one (or few) specialised fields of study.

The University reflects the existing tensions in West Ariddian society between capitalists and communists. Its students are often poltically active, and it is a vibrant, energetic centre of political, social and economic debate. Lecturers' political leanings are, for the most part, known to students, who choose to follow courses accordingly.

Enrolment fees are steep, and restrict university education to a privileged few in a society where the gap between rich and poor is immense, despite the existence of pro-communist associations to help students pay for tuition. Foreign students are fairly numerous, attending mainly thanks to exchange programs which make tuition fees affordable.

Perhaps the university's most famous lecturer is Ea L'lew, who taught history before recently proclaiming herself head of State. Famous former students include pop singer Ping (who studied economics), and ni-Tika Vanu poet and social critic Jessica Tomda, who completed a thesis in philosophy at the University of Aqeyr before returning to her home country. Most notable of all, perhaps, was Lal'i Os, a Wymgani woman of the Wishi community, who in the 1990s obtained a degree in history at the University shortly before revolutionising the Wishi's A'ae Eil Church.
