Safalra is the pseudonym of British computer scientist, erstwhile mathematician and occasional philosopher Stephen Morley. He prefers to be known by the pseudonym due to the existence of various other people called Stephen Morley (including a mathematics professor).

All the following information is written in the third person, as it was previously present on the Safalra page. I'll change it to first person at some later time.

Safalra is generally active in the technical side of NationStates - in particular writing software for statistical analysis - but also takes part in the United Nations, writing the most successful UN resolution, Female Genital Mutilation, and roleplays on the offsite forum of the region of England, hosting seasonal Equinox and Solstice celebrations.

Software

The following programs were written by Safalra.

NSDemographics

NSDemographics, formerly RegionAnalyser, released under the GNU GPL, was the first program for complex statistical analysis of NationStates. It produced detailed reports on a specified region, including statistics for regional government spending and analysis of UN endorsements. It became popular with many nations, and was used to generate reports on The West Pacfic. After changes to the NationStates code after the move to Jolt, Myrth alerted Safalra to the fact that the software no longer functioned. Safalra has expressed his intention to update the software in the future, taking advantages of new features in Java 1.5 such as enumerations to dramatically reduce the volume of code.

NSElectoralRegister

NSElectoralRegister is used to generate the electoral register for the region of England, but could easily be adapted for other regions, as the region name is specified as a constant in the source code, which is freely available. It generate a list of all nations that have been in the specified region and in the United Nations for more than a specified period of time, specified by a constant in the source code.

NSLargestRegions

NSLargestRegions is use by Safalra privately to generate a list of the largest regions every few weeks. The truncated list of the 32 largest regions is published online, with changes since the last list noted.

United Nations

Female Genital Mutilation

Safalra wrote the resolution Female Genital Mutilation, which holds the record for pssing by the largest majority in NationStates history.

Resolution Safety

Safalra invented the term 'resolution safety', defined as the percentage of votes in support of a resolution, and intended to indicate its safety from attempts at repeal. A list of resolutions in order of safety is published online.

UN Ambassador

Safalra is the UN Ambassador for the region of England. This elected position involves hosting discussion of UN resolutions on the offsite forum of the region, and advising the regional delegate on UN issues. Safalra has held this position since its creation on 2nd June 2005.
