Splendiferniss

Re: Talk:Splendiferniss. I moved the page, but then thought about it for a bit. How do you know that the wrong nationname was used in this instance? If this nation is in your region or belongs to a friend, fine. If you're just correcting spelling because it looks misspelled, be aware that NationStates nations are often misspelled by their owners. It is more important that we accurately chronicle the NS names than that they be spelled according to standard dictionaries. Make any such changes extremely gingerly unless you are certain of the facts.

Also, you've been stubbing pages like crazy around here. Any particular reason? Unlike Wikipeida, any given nation page can only be edited by a single user, as only that nation's owner really has the true history of his nation. It's not all that helpful to wiki novices, which is mostly what we have here. If you're looking to make a contribution to the site, it would be better if you concentrated on improving "common" pages, or adding administrative details like categories and infoboxes. Just a thought. → Fris Θtalk 23:39, 20 Mar 2005 (GMT)

  • About Splendiferniss: This nation, now ex-nation in fact, was indeed in my region so Im sure of that fact. About the extreme stubbing, I have indeed been overzealous. Though someone else did that to my nation's article so I assumed it was in order. I suppose Ill get on with something more productive then, like making my own nation's article a bit more fruitful. ;-) --Arturria 19:21, 22 Mar 2005 (GMT)
    • I usually use the {{nation-stub}} tag to indicate that the nation article in question needs an infobox. Just FYI. --Goobergunch|? 19:27, 22 Mar 2005 (GMT)
    • Fair enough. I suppose the amount of information an NSWiki article can contain is entirely up to the imagination of a nation's or region's creator and hence no specific amount can be said to warrant a stub. Though an infobox on its own, without even an intro paragraph looks somewhat bare to me. --Arturria 19:35, 22 Mar 2005 (GMT)

Population updates

Re Methody, have a look at Community decisions. That's one of the reasons we also don't like the "list of all nations" format, as it requires constant maintenance (and assosciated storage of old versions.

Also, avoiding common mistakes points out that clearing your user:talk page is not the same as deleting read emails. It's wiki courtesy to leave old messages up, and possibly archive them. Something you might want to consider if you're going to be as active as you appear to be. → Fris Θtalk 00:29, 28 Mar 2005 (GMT)

  • Fine. Ive now restored my talk page as it was before. I was already aware that old messages should not be deleted. However, after I read the last comments that were made, the "You have new messages" message continued to show up at the top of pages I was looking at, which annoyed me slightly as I had to check constantly whether it was indeed due to new messages. This continued in later sessions, so I decided to get rid of them, which stopped the message appearing. I doubt this caused great inconvenience to anyone.
  • Concerning the population update thing, I hardly see how updating a list of nations is any different to updating the population number thats been coded into the regional infobox template. A list of nations merely adds more information (something a Wiki is designed to contain). Care to comment on how often that population number should be updated? Its hardly the right thing to leave it incorrect when nations have left or joined a region, is it? --Arturria 16:00, 10 Apr 2005 (GMT)
