ES/PF Edits

207.237.104.34 made some edits to Eireann Shamrock today that looked suspiciously like vandalism, especially given that almost the same IP made edits earlier in the page history that had been reverted by various sysops. The edits involved removing a bunch of aliasing and adding an "allegedly" on one of the charges against him. I reverted to your version, but since you seem to have some experience in the matter, you should probably make sure. Thanks. → Ceo \ squawk 23:26, 30 December 2005 (GMT)

<math> tags

Is there a way that we can use TeX math tags? I created a page for Ceorana Department of State Human Development Index, and displayed some formulae, but I want it to look nice and set apart from other text, like at Wikipedia:Human Development Index. Is this just not available on NSwiki, or do I have to use different markup? Thanks. → Ceo \ squawk 02:01, 28 January 2006 (GMT)

IPA troubles

Hi there, sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get IPA fonts to display correctly. I know the obvious reason - I'm using IE - but the templates designed to bypass this don't seem to be working for me. I have tried creating my own template (Template:IPA2) which carries more up-to-date code from the current Wikipedia IPA template. I've even tried editing my monobook.css and standard.css and it doesn't seem to have made any difference. I probably wouldn't be so persistant except I'm writing a language page, and the IPA is almost all small boxes - but on Wikipedia they display perfectly. I really can't see where NSWiki and Wikipedia differ on the matter, so I'm really at a loss as to why they don't ruddy work for me here. So I'm wondering if you could help me out. I know a simple solution would be to ditch IE, but I'd rather not go through that hassle right now to be honest.

I'd fully accept a "sorry, it just doesn't work" - it would at least be closure.

Thanks for your time! --ZedderZulu 13:46, 7 February 2006 (GMT)

'max_questions' Errors

My apologies if anyone has brought this up in the past, but recently, numerous times when I try and access pages of the wiki, i get the following error. The error continues every time I try to access them for roughly 5-10 minutes, when the wiki returns to normal.

IRC

On a non-NSwiki note, your registration of #unitednations lapsed. I reregistered it, but you're on the AOP list still. #nswiki has also lapsed; I know you're aware of this. If you want, I could just reregister that too, and add you to the SOP list. Gruen2alk 03:13, 8 March 2006 (GMT)

I reregistered it, and have added you to the SOP list. ~Gruen2 12:07, 22 March 2006 (GMT)

Database error

Hey, this has already probably been asked, but I was wondering what the database error that pops up from time to time is all about. Here it is:

A database error has occurred
Query: BEGIN
Function: Database::begin
Error: 1226 User 'goobergunch1' has exceeded the 'max_questions' resource (current value: 72000) (mysql.servage.net)

Then there's a list of files and how many calls they're doing to the DB (I assume that what those mean, anyway. Thanks! --Dymero 06:56, 9 March 2006 (GMT)

Main Page reoganization

Hey, goobergunch. I know you're probably busy, but when you get a chance, could you take a look back at the Main Page reoganization discussion over @ Talk: Main_Page? We think we have a good new style in place, but it requires moving the disclaimer the bottom of the page. So, we want your approval before we do that. Thanks! »Dymero|t 23:50, 21 March 2006 (GMT)

NSWiki Hosting

Hey Goobergunch,

It is my understanding that you are looking for someone to host NSWiki, I might be able to work something out with you. I am on IRC most of the time, or you can send an Email to pilias.simber@gmail.com.

NSwiki locked me out

The first time it refused to mail me a new password, I remember something along the lines of "Oh well" from someone. I created a second account. After nearly a year of dissuse, I came back again. I requested a new password because, quite simply, I forget things. It refused to send me a new one. So in lieu of creating a third account, I was hoping I can get some help? 24.184.95.75 23:50, 25 April 2006 (GMT) (Fod, locked outside)

Hey Goober,

I've been pmming you the past couple days to see if I could ask you a few questions about Wiki, and about if we could use some of the help content on yours.

Could you fire me an e-mail @ my blackbird0@yahoo.com ?

Ever considered?

I'm vaguely aware of you seeking a new host for NSWiki as your current one has been uncooperative in relation to the "max_questions" error. Have you ever considered applying for a http://www.wikia.com/ MediaWiki? I'm sure they could move the database across - they did so for Wookiepedia, and that's much larger than NSWiki. You could then use a .htaccess redirect to maintain the current NSWiki URL, if you so wished. The only downside is that each page would be subject to relatively unobtrusive ads on the right hand side. The Mindset 23:34, 30 April 2006 (GMT)

trying wikia?

Hi Goobergunch,

It looks like you've done a ton of work on this, but there has not been a lot of help from other users? I'd love to learn more about what you're trying to do - and see if we can help

a (stupid?) question

Hello :) Great job.

Well of course I've managed to cock something up. A long time ago (about a year) I created the Kiue page for my nation. However, I didn't create a username so I basically just created a new page with my IP logged. Now, I've signed up for an account with the same name, Kiue, but my account is not linked to the nation page because I was on a different IP at my old location. Also, three pictures are not uploading and three others are. Thanks if you can provide any help :)

Copywrite

Good morning.

I currently building a page for the region of Forest. As delegate (Errinundera) for the region I update the World Factbook entry at least once a week with, what is to me, a relevant or memorable quote from some source, ie literary, from the www or non-fiction.

My intention is to collect these on the NSwiki region page but I'm concerned about copywrite. You would know the space limitations of the World Factbook Entry so none of the quotes could be very long. What is permitted? The authors would be attributed.

Thanks.

User Willd Nation Errinundera 23:30 GMT approx 9 June 2006

Thanks for the reply. I'll leave the quotes out. I've got plenty to do without using them. Willd 9:01 GMT 13 June 2006

Kaenei Edit

Okay so I was editing the article Kaenei and talking to him at the same time, and I saved my edits, and when the page loaded again half the article was missing. So I hit edit again, and scrolled through the edit box all rthe way down and the article was there, then scrolled back up, and when I tried scrolling back down again half the article was gone again. So yeah, half of Kaenei's article is gone. Can you revert that edit? Fodski 17:11, 27 June 2006 (GMT)

Done, tell me if there's anything else you need. :) (( Pacitalkia )) Time sent: 17:53, 27 June 2006 (GMT)

Re: Knoot

Sorry, man, I thought you were inactive too so I didn't bother. I apparently also didn't bother to check NSwiki:Administrators to make sure you were/were not active, silly me. Anyway, yeah, I apologise. (( Pacitalkia )) Time sent: 04:48, 2 August 2006 (GMT)

Wikia, Again

Upon submitting a request for a NS related wiki at wikia, I mentioned NS wiki. As we all know the server is extremely unstable. In the reply, the Wikian Staff said that they would be happy to host NSWiki. Lightman 23:50, 14 September 2006 (GMT)

Images

Are there any plans to a) allow uploads of SVG files and/or b) fix the thumbnail feature so pictures can be sized down? Ceoranta 19:34, 29 October 2006 (GMT)

  • I'd like to second both of these requests. I know that now that I have the means to make more images, I plan to do so ... and scalling things down would be nice. Mikitivity 20:16, 29 October 2006 (GMT)
In addition, my primary reason for asking was because I have to upload three copies of some of Ceorana's files - a large one for detailed description, a medium-sized one for the infobox, and a small one for use in lists. Ceoranta 20:56, 29 October 2006 (GMT)

Disappearing article

The article Adoki, which I didn't write but had in my watch list, disappeared as if deleted apparently without a trace from NSwiki. A Google search for "NSwiki Adoki" gives a cached version of the page. I don't know whether you or any of the other administrators would be able to shed any light onto what happened? The page can be reconstructed from the google cache but I haven't done so yet because I was unsure as to why it disappeared and whether it would happen again. --Pantocratoria 13:09, 20 November 2006 (GMT)

I deleted it, as the page was of a tiny nation that no longer existed and met many of the criteria for speedy deletion. I've now restored it. Ceoranta 23:56, 20 November 2006 (GMT)

Article Communist Mississippi

The author of this article has attempted to NPOVise it, and would like the POV tag removed. Since you were involved in the issue, I think it would be a good idea if you could give your opinion on the current status of the article. Aridd 22:39, 20 December 2006 (GMT)

Has an Idea

Hello Gobbergunch. I am glad that you created a wiki for NS. I have a small problem though. I am creating a category/factbook (whatever you want to call it) for my nation, but I have ran into a small problem. I can't figure out how to add something to a category. I have a solution, but by any chance, can you include category, with factbook as a section, to the Help section of NS wiki? Havvy 02:50, 31 December 2006 (GMT)

Thumbnail errors?

I'm reporting this error on behalf of Sajlamot (talk). I was recently trying to help him correct his nation's page here, specifically trying to integrate the two images he links to into his article - a temple (linked to in the History section), and his nation's map (uploaded here as Sajlamot_Map.png, but linked to it's location on photobucket or some such in the template). When we tried installing the codes, we kept getting a message "Error creating thumbnail" instead of the actual image. I tried purging the page, but that didn't work. It appeared the same on both Firefox and IE 9 (the version with tabs).

Sorry if this isn't the place to report errors, but I couldn't find anything better and thought you ought to know. If you need more input from us, could you post it here or on Sajlamot's talk page (linked above)? Thanks muchly! Hersfold 04:05, 10 January 2007 (GMT)

User impersonation

Hi,

Pacitalia has verified that User:Odhinnia had created the account User:Frestonia in order to vandalise / make questionable edits, primarily to impersonate the real player Frestonia and defame him. Paci has now blocked Odhinnia for one year. What we'd need you to do, if possible, is change the password for User:Frestonia, so that Odhinnia can no longer access it (for now, the account is blocked for one week), and then TG the new password to Frestonia so that he can access his own NSwiki user account at last. Thanks. Aridd 13:02, 21 February 2007 (GMT)

NS XML Extension

I've just been developing a (slightly hacky) extension for a separate region's MediaWiki installation which allows it to pull information back from the NationStates XML feeds for both nations and regions. Would you be interested in installing/enabling it here if I tidied up the code/error handling and improved the caching to not put quite as much load on a server? When enabled it's a simple {{getnsxml:nationname|value}} affair to use and helps automate things like nation information boxes.

Let me know if you're interested, reply here or shoot me an email (I'm pretty sure I registered one on here). Alternatively hunt me down on the EoGB Wiki, same username.

Page titles

I'd like to change the title of the Category:Cities in Sorthern Northland to Category:Settlements in Sorthern Northland and then have Cities in Sorthern Northland etc as sub categories. Would this be possible or would it be easier to make a settlement category and then add the cities one to add?

<reference> tags

Hello, as is NSwiki doesn't know reference tags, would it be possible to install them so the tags could be utilized? It would be a great relief to me if I could actually use the reference system, thanks. Willink 20:02, 1 July 2007 (GMT)

new nation

I am new here to NSWiki and I wish to make a page for the nation of Ethan Smith. Unfortunately, there is already a page called Ethan Smith. I'm not sure how to make a new one if there's the name is already taken. I'd really appreciate your help.

How do I nominate my nation page for submission...

Greetings,

Just was curious how I nominate my nation page of PopularFreedom to be added to the samples of best work on NSwiki. I recognize I still have a number of tweaks I still have to do to improve the page however was curious what process I have to go about doing to enable it to be considered.

Sincerely, Eagle Scream

Nation templates..

I like the idea of creating a nation template on the bottom of my page like ITD has, but I don't know how to do this and it doesn't seem to be covered in the template help pages. Could you help me with this?
