The Counter-Reformated Empire of Vinr Alfkyn is a massive, safe nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 2.139 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Religion & Spirituality, and Defence. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 38%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Cheese Exports industries.
Children have taken to using semaphore in light of the recent mobile phone ban, skateparks can be found in every city, the government has instituted 'traveller reservations' across the country, and mysterious black helicopters menace farmers to ensure compliance with straitjacketing agricultural policies. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Vinr Alfkyn's national animal is the Elephant, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Ay.
