Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 5.03 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and the Environment. The average income tax rate is 100%. A healthy private sector is dominated by the Uranium Mining industry.
The government spends millions of kruts every year prosecuting spammers, people regularly disappear off the streets and all evidence of them is destroyed, the government is spending billions of kruts on helping citizens find spiritual enlightenment, and Pinkerton agents are called in to forcibly break up white collar strikes. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Vivalutsk's national animal is the egg, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the krut.
The GICV Government
The Government of the GICV is based on ancient Greek methods to a certain extent, in that ever ten years a tyrant is elected who has full dictatoral powers over the Conglomerate until the end of their term in office. The current dictator, Lord Charles Stefano, has recently been elected for a second time, due to the fact he has the full support of the military and the intelligence sectors.
Local government is devised along more communal lines, where the territories are divided up first into nations which are ruled over by the aristocracy, then into constituencies which have almost self-governing people's collectives. The collectives decide local law, and the lords ensure all territories provide for the Conglomerate's welfare and upkeep.
