Government

The Wakeland Governed by the Wakeland Parlament which is made of of a bicammeral legislature. Three Chancellors are elected to head the federal government. There is no federal judicial branch in Wakeland. All issues are resolved in state courts and issues between states are resolved in the Parlament. Wakeland is a proud Republic and upholds the ideals of republicanism in its governing philosphy. It is a very democratic nation, although delagation is an important concept in governing. All Wakeland citizens are elligble to run for any office. All citizens but felons are allowed to vote. Wakeland's constitusion is the Terra Mandata.

Chancellorship

The Chancellors are headed by the Prime Chancellor who is the winner of the greatest number of electoral votes. The Second Chancellor and Third Chancellor win the second and third most votes. Terms are six year-no re-election, however, a Chancellor can run for another Chancellor seat. Prime Chancellor Del Monitti is expected to run for Second or Third Chancellor in the next election, while Third Chancellor Ferdiand Wake is expected to run for the Prime Chancellorship. The Chancellors are the symbolic leaders of the nation and traditionally play a large role in foriegn deplomacy, the apointing of Ambassodors, The Ministry executives. A bill may be signed into law with the approval of only the Prime Chancellor, upon its passage in the Parlament, however if both the other Chancellors choose to veto the bill it fails and will be sent back to the Parlament. Likewise two chancellors can over ride a veto by the Prime Chancellor. If the Chancellors niether veto nor sign a bill, it is inacted within a week.

Parlament

The Parlament refers to the two federal legislative bodies, the house of Delagates and the House of Sensibles. For a bill to be passed in Wakeland it must pass through both houses.

House of Delagates

The House of Delagates is elected at large. Three Delagates are chosen from each state in the union and serve three year terms. Delagates debate and vote upon bills. Bills are introduced in this house and move to the house of sensibles upon their passage. Despite years of urban cries for a population based represenative system the ammendment has never passed.

House of Sensibles

The House of Sensibles is the uperhouse in the Parlament; they are appointed by their state's govonor to serve three year terms. Governers do not have to seek state legislatures approval in appointing Sensibles however that practice is becoming more common as formality. Sensibles have the power to vote upon bills and to over ride the veto of the Chancellorship with a 2/3 vote.

Wakeland Ministries

The Following is a list of the executives of the Wakeland Federal Ministries: Ministry of Defense- Bernard Shultz General Dwight D. Hassenfeffer Commander Jim Morris Ministry of Investigations Agency- Geoffry Longshanks Ministry of Agriculture- Ministry of Trade- Luke S. Moneymaker Ministry of Enviromental Protection- Ministry of State- Misistry of Labor- Misistry of Education-

State Government

The States hold a great deal of autonomy. Each State holds elections for a Governer, term limits vary. Each state also has a legislative body, most commonly refered to the General Assembly although some states refer to the state legislature as the Senate. State Govonors appoint judicial nominees with the approval of the legislatures, however three states do not have a state supreme court. New Bookhaven, North and South Dresser have never approved a state supreme court.

Politics

Wakeland is known internationally as a conservative nation; however, there are many parties and a thriving liberal community which continuelly is challenging conservatives in the national government. The Southern States are very liberal, while the rural eastern states are particularly conservative. The Northwest tends to be rather conservative if not centrist at times.

The Minimalist Party

The Minimalist Party is apart of the conservative coaltion and is staunchly conservative on most issues. They are rather Libertarian in philosphy. The principle of this party is more or less, that the government should'nt be involved in anything. Famous Minimalist Prime Chancellor Fredrick Marion once said, "I got elected to sit in office not to tell people how to run their lives."

The Freedomist Party

The Freedomist party was an offshoot of the Minimalist Party from the 1860s when the slave issue first became a big issue. While minimalists took the posistion that the government had no right to tell business men and farmers not to practice slavery, the Freedomists took issue with their party platform. They were the first sucsessful third party in Wakeland and still tend to take a slightly diffrent tone on issues than the Minimalists, who never seem to think government should do anything.

The Liberationist Party

The Liberationist Party was founded in the 1950s but remained in obscurity until the mid 1970s when they first won seats in the House of Delagates. Theyre by in large concerened with premoting democratic values throughout the region and are adamantly opposed to the Lukanthonland Monarchy. With the influx of Lukanthonlanders in Wakeland over the past two decades the party has become a powerful force in Wakeland politics.

The Green Party

The Green Party is the longest living party in wakeland. While today they have been primarly concenned with social reforms and enviromental issues the Green Party is the most common party registration for Wakelanders. The party changed its name from the Labor Party in 1966.

The Peoples Party

The Peoples Party has never achieved wide sucsess in Wakeland but they continue to stand as the fifth party. Founded in 1895 the, then, Populous Party was very popular in the poorer southern region. The party's only Prime Chancellor, Zebidia Jackson, was elected in 1904 as a Populous. The Party Changed its name to the Socialist Party of Wakeland in 1912, then in 1919 changed to the Communist Party of Wakeland, only to change back to the Socialist Party in 1934. The party became the Peoples Party of Wakeland in 1974.

Coalitions

In order to gain office and to accomplish things in Parlament it is essential for parties to reach out and work toward consensus. While issues are often split upon ideoligical lines, in Wakeland the parties have affiliated themselves with two polar opposite affiliations, the Conservative and the liberal coalitions.

Murdoch also owns The Poloshirton Times, the Chessburge News and Observer, the Cameron City Star, the Heati Daily, the excellence in broadcasting radio network and the internet. Now Wakelanders using the net must type www.google.mmn or www.nationstates.mmn (MMN stands for Murdoch Media Networks).
