The Incorporated States of Walkering Industries is a largely unexplored land mass in the South Pacific region, notable for its many mountains, isthmuses and archipelagoes. The geographical formation it occupies is often referred to as the Pacific Tour.

People

Walkering Industries prides itself on its industrious population. Its citizens work hard, play hard, and are generally enthusiastic about being involved in a variety of pursuits, especially the national pastime, travel by walkering.

Government

The Incorporated States are ruled by a Chairman of the Board who serves at the discretion of Walkering's shareholders, a cohort that includes the entire population. The Chairman holds a majority stake of voting shares in the nation due to the fact that the government inherits all shares in Walkering Industries upon a citizen's death.

Individual States may and often do issue their own series of shares, and enjoy a certain amount of autonomy from the Executive Suite.

Flag

The flag of Walkering Industries was designed by seamstress Ambula Constantinople to remember those industrious citizens who lost their lives in the Long Walker that immediately preceded the founding of the Incorporated States.

National Anthem

The national anthem of Walkering Industries commemorates the Long Walker and is titled You'll Never Walker in Vain.

Lyrics:
You walker through the world
With your head up high
In search of a land to call home.
Tho' your soles may be long
And tho' tears you may cry
Toward a better toe you roam.

Walker on through the wind,
Walker on through the storm,
Tho' your steps be filled with pain.

Walker on, walker on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walker in vain.

History

Historical time

Historical time in Walkering Industries is marked out in units known as "steps," each of which is composed of eight "soles," each sole lasting approximately six weeks of the Gregorian Calendar. Longer periods of historical time are referred to as "strides" (four steps) and "blocks" (three strides, or 12 steps).

The block was established by the length of the era known as the Long Walker. The Long Walker was preceded by an era known as the Heel, and followed by the current era, the Toe. As a result, Industrians refer to time as progressing from heel to toe, rather than from past to future. (The capitalized terms refer to eras, while the lower-case terms refer to directions in time.)

Malcontents among the Industrious population can occasionally be heard referring to an unspecified future period of dystopia they believe will be known as the Ball.

Historical events

Walkering Industries was established at the beginning of Step One, the first step after the Long Walker, which was brought to an end by the Council of Feet, which lasted a full two soles and which established the early government of the nation, which was headed by the first Chairman of the Board, Pedestrian Crossing.

Culture

National pastime

The national pastime of Walkering Industries is walkering, a peculiar form of bipedal ambulation native to Walkering's citizens. Consisting of a slow forward gait accompanied by deep interest in one's surroundings, whatever they may be, walkering provides the nation's citizens with endless hours of enjoyment as they seek to explore every corner of their lands, and even those beyond their borders. The original choice of the Pacific Tour as the Walkering homeland was made specifically because it would provide Industrians with plenty of interesting places to walker.

Cuisine

The citizens of Walkering Industries are proud to call the Cheese Plate their national dish.

The nation's national beverage is currently the Orange Julius, though legislation has been proposed to change this.

The official language of Walkering Industries is English.

Economy

The official currency of Walkering Industries is known as the walk.
