The Lead to War

Noddestani Island Cessions

Most wars have begun through border troubles; reasonst that are tangible through logic and through reasoning, however, other wars are fought over distant lands, because of abstract policies. Indeed, the world has gone topsy-turvy in the past years, as powers propogate their influence not through a region, but through worlds that were considered distant before. It seems as if governments are more interested in global influence, instead of regional influence, and in a world so big one would suspect that this theory of expansion is correct. The War of the Fugue Straits began with something abstract, as said here; more specifically, it began with the selling of eight islands, previously owned by Noddestan, to the foreign market.

The Noddestan administration, finding no practical use for the islands, sold the islands in the form of clusters, and it immediately caught the attention of the international world. Indeed, Minister Jonathan Harkem, the Mekugian Minister of Logistics, had put in an offer for the seventh and eight offer, while just after, the Empire of the Golden Throne but in an offer for islands one and five. A consequent deal was struck and the fifth island was sold, but unfortunately, not the first island. However, heated exchanges began to build up as the island was re-sold to Little India, along with the sixth island, enraging Fedor I, and the Empire of the Golden Throne alike. Although the bid was increased, the plea was ignored, and Little India ended up with islands five and six, for the time being.

While the heat continued to filter through Little India and the Golden Throne, other heated exchanged marked the bidding. After an unusually high bidding of thirty trillion for an island, from Swedish Dominions, the nation was removed from the bidding process, enraging even more world leaders. Indeed, the Noddestani government filled in a report shortly after detailing the process of the booting:

"The Noddestan government, after deliberating hard on the subject of the sale of the eight islands on her southern coast, voted unanimously to eliminate both the Swedish Dominions and the RIS from the bidding war, considering both to be "a tad untrustworthy".

Owing to the good relations between Noddestan and Krendakov in the recent few years, Krendakov has been awarded island one for the sum of $300bn USD to be paid over a course of ten years. The representative of Krendakov is invited to Noddestan to be the first, (after Noddestan) to sign the 'Treaty of United Islands'. The Krendakovian government continue their deliberations over what to call the island.

The rest of cluster one, comprising islands two, three and four, are sold to Van Luxemburg for the sum of $400bn USD assuming the offer still stands. The Noddestan government has had time to assess Van Luxemburg and would value them as their closest of neighbours. The representative of Van Luxemburg is also invited to sign the 'Treaty of United Islands'.

Cluster two, at the heart of the Cratian Sea, is sold to Little India for $500bn USD only. The Noddestani government is mindful of what the islands are worth and feels it is silly to get into the semantics of trillians of dollars. The representative of Little India is invited to sign the 'Treaty of United Islands'.

A suitable price for cluster three has not been arrived at at the current time. Bidding on islands seven and eight continues."

Unfortunately, Swedish Dominions was not persuaded to let go of the bidding and the schism of governments continued to increase in intensity, ending finally with an all out mobilization.

The Swedish Dominion's Mobilization

"Chairmen, Ministers and people of the Swedish Dominions. I am standing here today to announce the first mobilization of the Imperial Armed Forces in a long time. Though we are not mobilizing more than 5000 soldiers, it's a pretty important event."

Those words marked the beginning of the mobilization of around five thousand men, prepared to take the islands by force if Noddestan was unwilling to give them through peace. The deployments included the 1st Marine Regiment, the 2nd Marine Regiment and 5th Helicopter Air Battalion, all providing quite a bit of firepower for an island hopping campaign. In response, the governments that had already installed themselves within their respective governments put themselves on high alert, including Van Luxemburg which put its one thousand five hundred man garrison at Defcon 1. Even, the Empire of the Golden Throne responded, ready for a war abroad, Recent Swedish mobilizations and plans for deployment abroad, especially in the light of the heated conflict for those Noddestani islands, have sent a shockwave through the Empire, which is still in the midst of its War of Golden Succession. Nonetheless, we have the naval power to deploy around those islands, and we assure that those units will not arrive safely if they begin to deploy in that area. If we are incorrect in our stipulation, and they are meant for something else, then please accept our apologies. But for some reason, we do not think that is the case. Please, watch your movements, for you will not be able to take them back.

Further orders from Fedor I released a wolfpack of ten Tenerife class SSHs as well as twenty Cartagena class SSNs; a very potent force. Events were spiralling more and more over to all out conflict over the islands, and as the Republic of Truitt put it,all over some islands? As alliances were re-affirmed and armies grew in size the Golden Throne kept quiet, slowly preparing a series of deployments, ready to snare out into any situation and take those islands for themselves. It was to say, the wheel to war had finally made it to its destination, and now ultimate war over the islands was inevitable.
