World Cup 25 AS-KP bid

The AS-KP bid for World Cup 25 (where AS = Audioslavia and KP = Kaze Progressa) places an emphasis on innovation. In particular, the bid proposes a revolutionary approach to scorination, utilising a modified version of the style modifiers in the Under-21 World Cup. If used, it would be the first use of such a system in the World Cup itself.

The style modifier

The style modifier is a value specified by the individual nation, and is an integer between -2 and +2:

  • -2 = all-out defensive style, likely to be associated with formations such as 6-3-1. Similar to the System Karela approach that is popular in Rejistania.
  • -1 = a moderately defensive style, likely to be associated with formations such as 5-4-1. Becoming increasingly popular among RL teams: the Euro 2004-winning Greek side would fall into this category.
  • 0 = a balanced style, likely to be associated with formations such as 4-4-2. The majority of RL teams would fall under this category. Teams who do not specify a style modifier will be given a 0 value by default.
  • +1 = a moderately attacking style, likely to be associated with formations such as 3-5-2 or 4-3-3. Popular in RL teams in previous generations: the current Barcelona and Real Madrid sides would also fall into this category.
  • +2 = an all-out attacking style, likely to be associated with formations such as 3-4-3. Similar to the System Takil approach that is hated in Rejistania but popular with some other nations, such as Oliverry.

The style modifiers of each team are combined for calculation purposes, so an attacking team and a defensive team cancel each other out. The modifier does not have a significant impact on the probability of winning - though scores are more unpredictable where teams are more attacking, so there is a slightly increased chance of an upset (but by implication, there is also a slightly increased chance of a large winning margin especially for the stronger team). As a rule, the probability of any given team winning does not vary significantly with the style modifier, though draws are slightly less likely to occur between attacking teams.

The formula also incorporates KPB points as opposed to sequential ranks, to better reflect differences between teams.

To test the formula, a friendly tournament would take place in the run-up to the Cup itself, probably around the same time as the Baptism of Fire tournament. This would incorporate both hosts, as well as teams of all different styles. In this period, all teams would be telegrammed and given the opportunity to allocate a style modifier to their team.

Cherry Cup 16 uses a heavily-modified version of this scorinator, designed to produce more realistic scores for ice hockey and also to use sequential ranks.

RP bonus

RP bonus will take the form of additional KPB points for scorination purposes, and will most likely incorporate both quality and quantity. Because the formula involves using the square root of the KPB points total (including RP bonus), RP bonus goes further for new nations. This should help encourage their participation. However, RP bonus will still have an impact on all teams.

Other elements

The qualifying format will be decided based upon the number of entrants. Fun will be encouraged. More news will be added here as further plans are finalised.
