History
Founded in 2005 after the overthrow of dictator Joseph Kabila, the Commonwealth of Northern Congo (CNC)unites the former Democratic Republic of the Congo with Rwanda and Burundi. The creation of the CNC occured during a time of consolidation for the countries of central Africa.
Natural Resources
The CNC is rich in mineral resources, such as diamond, copper, zinc, and uranium.
Military
The military of the CNC is divided into three branches: Army, Navy, and Air Force. They are a combined force of 400,000 men and women, with compulsatory military services for all citizens between the ages of 18 and 22.
Army
The army is 300,000 men strong, with armored, infantry, and airborne units.
The Northern Congo has a large navy, which uses Mark II PBR and PCF patrol boats for operations on the CNC's river system.
Air Force
The Air Force of the CNC flies:
- 30 Mirage F-1 fighter aircraft
- 23 MIG 21 fighter/bomber aircraft
- 20 Tupolev TU-16 bomber aircraft
