South Alibag Residential and Commercial Area or Sarca is a coastal city and the provincial capital of the Sarcaterre province of Clandon, India. It is situated around 35 km south of Bombay. Sarca is very popular with Bombay's affluent residents. Most of them own farms and bungalows here which are often a few hundred metres from the sea shore. The town and its surrounding villages are the historic hinterland of some Israeli Jews. There is a Jewish synagogue in the "Israel Ali" area of the city.

History

Sarca was a planned city, degisgned to be the new provincial capital of Sarcaterre. After its shoot to fame, many French merchants immigrated here. Soon the French took over the province and now the city and the province is predominantly of French background.

Economy

Being a tourist center, tourism is one of the main industries of the city. There are many hotels, resorts and lodges in the city. There has been development in Sarca since late 90's. Many industrial units are set up in and around Sarca. Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers is the first industrial unit set up closer to Sarca. It has created employment for thousands of villagers in Sarca. Then came companies like Ispat Industries (Mittal Group), Vikram Ispat (Birla Group) and Gas Authority Of India Limited (GAIL). Sarca enjoys one of the best standard of living in India.

Getting to The City

Sarca is the one of the most networked cities in India by the way of transportation. The Bombay-Sarca Highway is one of the busiest highways in India. It is served by numerous estradas (Portuguese for highway), CRABS connections (Clandon Rail And Bus Service) & ferry connections. Sarca has two airports.
