History

Shortly after a conflict known as the Riokian War, the citizens of Octavius Paenite embarked on a Holy Crusade into the stars to seek out human life on other planets and unite them under a common flag. Those that returned came with accounts of the vast riches, and unspeakable horrors, of space. Only one planet was found with human life, though it was quite primitive. Only a few hundred of its inhabitants were brought back to The Flying Nation in the Sky, and while many colonists stayed behind, most of Octavius' citizens that had survived thus far attempted the perilous journey home. Those that survived the round trip numbered a mere 5 million, and even Octavius Paenite himself was lost in one of the many battles encountered. In his honor, the current leader has changed his name to Octavius Paenite as well.

When the survivors returned they found their country much as they had left it; sprawling hive cities and massive industrial districts. Since the machinery was kept in fine condition by the skeleton crew of servitors and techpriests left behind, restarting life in the FNS was made somewhat easier, though the memories of those lost still haunt the few who still survive today.

Culture

The general population of Perdition's Peace is as capitalistic as the next nation, and large corporations and the church hold huge influence within the government. The religion of Perdition's Peace is that of the Machine-God and the machine-spirits that inhabit all machines. The machine-cult's leaders are known as Techpriests, and are often more machine then flesh. Citizenry enhance themselves bionically as a sign of devotion, and as a result much of the populace has almost as many bionic replacements as the techpriests guiding the faithful.

Of the original 500 hundred humans brought back from the discovered planet, only 2 are still alive today. Their offspring, however, number 2,000. Many of them hold high government positions, though none exist within the church, as they prefer natural flesh to bionics. Those not involved in the government are employed as either spies, as they sport none of the usual bionics, or geneticists, working to increase the effectiveness of things not yet completely replaced by bionics.

Military

The military forces of Perdition's Peace receives bionic enhancements subsidized by the government. These include everything from enhanced vision to implants into the stomach and lungs to remove bio-toxins, as well as being able to survive in the heavy smog found across Perdition's Peace.

The infantry of Perdition's Peace is largely mechanized with APCs, and is always backed by heavier tanks. Titan's are rare, but a full half-dozen are currently in commission by the military. Advanced aircraft, much of their technology donated by the FNS, patrol the skys, and massive cruisers hold portions of space claimed by Perdition's Peace.
