The Alliance Army

(later renamed the Imperial Army)

Regular forces of the Alliance army are divided into several ranks that can easily be seen on the individual soldier by the color of his uniform. Simple grunts wear green uniforms, veteran forces wear blue uniforms and elite troops wear red uniforms. There are also soldiers in black and golden uniforms and armor, but these are elite guards to the generals and are never encountered in battle. Lucil Leclerc Beaumonde is also protected by the Republican Guard (which later becomes the Imperial Guard), an elite force of fighters and mages with special abilities, similar to Jin, led by Jestro. The forces are split up between the different generals, each general commanding an army of his or her own.

Low-ranking soldiers dressed in green are usually noted for their mostly benevolent behaviour towards civilians in the occupied areas. Although this is not perceived well by the higher ranks, green soldiers are often seen giving their daily chocolate rations to children and cigarettes to adults in the occupied areas. There are several distinct types of soldiers:

• Civilian Support Crew Member
• Grunt
• Female Combatant
• Marauder
• Heavy Infantry

There are also ninjas, but they are a whole different category dealt with below.

Veteran forces clad in blue are battle-hardened troops that can appear both on their own or supplemented by imperial heavy war machinery like Hexes or Arch Hexes in battle. Regular forces rise to this rank after surviving a certain time in battle, killing a certain amount of enemy troops (or destroying enemy capital) or simply by serving in the army for a period of several years. Veteran forces do get much better pay. Types of soldiers are:

• Veteran Grunt
• Veteran Female Combatant
• Veteran Marauder
• Veteran Heavy Infantry

The elite forces clad in red are often seen on special missions. Small groups of these soldiers are equivalent to whole batallions of green-clad, and at least divisions of blue-clad forces. They travel in small groups, usually consisting of relatively small all-around fighting personell and several specialists, depending upon the specific task they have received. Red soldiers are also often seen commanding lower-ranking forces in battle. They generally do not care much about the civilian population, neither being very caring for them, nor having any intent on wasting time or ammunition on dealing pain to something they consider this unimportant. They are utterly without remorse for civilian casualties that occur in battle as "collateral damage". Types of personell include:

• Elite Grunt
• Elite Female Combatant
• Elite Marauder
• Elite Heavy Infantry

Elite Guards clad in gold or black are bodyguards to high-ranking commanders or other important individuals. They are never seen in battle. These soldiers are said to be extremly strong, being trained by Cecil Rhodes and Selene. They are also said to have lots of Augmented amongst their ranks since Alexej Septimus refined the Nanite Infusion process based on the knowledge gained from the case of Jin Juro. They are also known for being completely without fear or favour in completing their tasks, acting almost like zombies, but being very cruel towards bystanders in their freetime. This behaviour is propably the result of the special training they receive.

Besides these classifications, there are also soldiers that wear different uniforms. These are either members of the Imperial Guard, specialists that are employed by the army for specific matters, or officers. Snipers, too, are not classified into the above categories.

Ninja Vipers

• Commander: Jin Jade Juro
• Strength: unknown, assumed ca. 160
• Specialisation: Covert Operations, Assassination, Espionage
• Fighting Style: Ninjutsu

Led by Jin Jade Juro, the Ninja Vipers are the weapon of choice for espionage, assassination and sabotage. Clad in black, these soldiers move in in silence, complete their task in stealth and secrecy and take their leave just as silently as they came. Though such a force would have the potential to much more, they are rarely used and almost always by orders of marshal Jestro. This is most likely because the two other generals have their own substantial forces under them, which they prefer to use. The only notable account of Ninja Viper activity was in Rhanland, were the local ruler, Baron Schaller, was dethroned by a rebellion they incited, and later killed by a small team of Ninjas in his mansion in the Rhanlandian countryside (but not before he handed the Flying Dutchman to Luna of Luna and Lavio of Vingarde, who took their leave with the airship, forces of Selene being hot on their trail). The Ninja Vipers, like all forces, are highly loyal to their commander Jin and despise Jestro. What became of them after Jestro took power beyond Rift Omega is unknown, but it is propable they either joined him or died, like were the options to all other remaining forces.

Red Ninja Vipers

An elite squad within the Ninja Vipers. They accompany their leader Jin Jade Juro on the most dangrous and difficult missions. All of them accompanied him to the forsakken castle and were subsequently slaughtered by the vampire Alucarde, who turned them into his minions. It is highly propable that all but the last member of this elite squad died during this incident.
