The Atlantic is one of the older regions in the world, notorious for its history in invading. Recently, Atlantic has faced founder deletion, inactivity, invasion, and member loss. Despite this, Atlantic still lives, but with an uncertain future.

History

Foundation and the AA

Nazifaz served as one of the first delegates of Atlantic, but soon Nusseburg and Dosopan took over and on March 16 they installed the Atlantic Alliance. This regional organization, based in Atlantic, was one of the first invader alliances in NationStates. While the might of the Atlantic Alliance ebbed and flowed, Atlantic would continue to be its stronghold. However, this would end on March the 4th of 2004 when the last Commander, MrNonchalant declared it dead.

Post-AA Atlantic

Attempted Renaissance

Ever since the Atlantic has mostly been a silent and inactive region. The founder of the region, Nazifaz, fell into inactivity and was deleted from the game, leaving Atlantic to sole rulership of the regional Delegate. Attempts were made by a few, such as Formossa, Azteca Helvetica, and A Raptor to bring the region back to life. Such efforts included creating a new forum and revitalizing the delegate position, but ultimately the region was invaded by the New Folsom Empire.

New Folsom Invasion

Members of the region New Folsom invaded the region with intentions to integrate it into their New Folsom Empire. Atlantic loyalists fiercely opposed such a move, and many were ejected from the region. The invaders password-protected the region, locking out the ejected loyalists and preventing any new nations from attempting to come in and overthrow their rule. New Folsomites proceeded in their plans of integration by creating a new forum for Atlantic, but it saw little real activity.

The Anti New Folsom League was created by Atlantic loyalists after the region was password-protected.

The New Folsomites also intended to secure Atlantic by refounding it with a puppet of theirs, effectively securing their position from any invasion. However, either because of opposition or laziness, the New Folsom invaders were never able to vacate all loyalist nations from Atlantic. Eventually the region was emptied down to only two nations, Azteca Helvetica and a New Folsom puppet. Atlantic loyalists departed for the historic Atlantic stronghold (with active founder), the Atlantic. Most New Folsom invaders returned to New Folsom for redeployment or simply ceased to exist. No nations could enter the region since it was password-protected and did not contain enough nations to elect a delegate. Around December 8th, the New Folsom puppet ceased to exist, leaving only Azteca Helvetica. For a further 20 days, Azteca Helvetica remained the only nation in Atlantic.

Refoundation

On December 28, 2006, Azteca Helvetica refounded Atlantic, replacing the defunct founder Nazifaz, and restoring the possibility of an Atlantic renaissance. Currently, this is where Atlantic stands.

Current Status

Atlantic is currently in a rebuilding and restructuring term. It has managed to bring in but a single new nation at the time of this writing, but discussions are underway to restart Atlantic's forums and bring in old and new members.

Two main areas of discussion currently lie open: first, Atlantic needs to choose a path of activity, whether that be invasion, regional cooperative roleplay (like the New Meritocracy and others), or regional individualized roleplay (like Europe and others); second, Atlantic, now with an actual founder, will need to decide on whether to grant regional powers to the Delegate.

Interregionally, Atlantic currently is only related to sister region the Atlantic, but may at some point open further relations with other regions and regional organizations. The founder nation, Azteca Helvetica, has close relations with many nations in Europe.

The United Nations currently plays virtually no role in Atlantic affairs.

New Folsom, now known as Imperial Folsom, still disputes the independence of Atlantic.
