Population

Barsacas population of 594 million quite homogenous, due to the no-immigration-policy, with the exception of the Native Barsacians, or "Møyneiskeir" as they like to be called, which is a tribe headed by the honorable Dances-with-Platypuses. The Native Barsacians also has the sole right to establish casinos.

Language

The most important language is Dutch, which is the mother tounge of 98% of the population and an official language.

The "Møyneiskeir" speak Alternative Norwegian, which is used for ceremonial purposes, and church life. Alternative Norwegian has been given a protected status, due to it's importance in Barsacian culture and literature.

French is an important second language, and is tought in schools across the country. The French language is especially important with communication with the nation of Solbergelven.

The average teenager in Barsaca can speek 5 languages fluently. Despite of this, English skills are totally unknown.

Literature

Barsacian literature can be divided into to parts; literature written in Dutch, and the literatur of the natives, Møyneiskeileig literature.

The Dutch literature blossomed in the 17th century, when the immigration from Europe started, and the Settlers started to write poetry describing the beautiful landscapes and platupuses of Barsaca. The most famous is the "Barsacian mountain" epos, which was written by Halvor Janson. Many novels where also written to describe the horrible conditions and the slavery of the supressed Native Barsacians, like "Uncle Voms Cabin". Today, the Dutch-Barsacian literature is famous far beyond the borders of Barsaca and Autistane.

The oldest Møyneiskeileig scripture was found in the mountains bordering Solbergelven, which is a love poem written by a woman to her husband. It was written with platypus blood on platypus leather. The poem is now in the museum for cultural history. The highpoint of Møyneiskeileig literature was in the Middle Ages, when the Møyneiskeir started to build cities, and stories which was a part of the oral tradition was written down. The European settlers who arrived in the 17th century, banned the native literature, and the Møyneiskeir where forced to hide their books in mountains, rivers and in hollow trees, where they stayed until 1864, when the ban on native literature was lifted.

Religion

The largest religion is Christianity, which was the official religion until the government deicded to secularise the country to decrease spending.

A religious minority of 2 per cent concists mainly of the Native Barsacian religion, which is a hamster-sacrificing cult.

The people of Barsaca are very devouted to their religion.


Education and research

Primary school is compulsory, and bilingualism is promoted at all levels of learning. The study of medicine is popular througout Barsaca. Education is the number one priority for the government.

The school system in Barsaca is the best in the region, and one of the best in the world. The government annualy spends over one half of the budget on education.

Children and family

Spanking of children is illegal, and a test proving your parenting skills is required if one wishes to raise children.


Law

Vegetarianism is compulsory, but the government has indicated that they will allow meat-eating as soon as the parliament allows it. Nudity is no longer compulsory, and clothes have been allowed.

Same-sex-marriages are legal. Abortion and euthanasia is legal. The national police has been shut down, and is no longer in use. Despite of this, crime is totally unknown.

Politics

Barsaca is a grand duchy, and is the most democratic country in the region.

Armed forces

The Armed Forces Concists of Teenage Ninjas, who have been sentenced to lifetime of service.

Economy

Barsaca has the largest GDP per capita in the region. The private sector is dominated by the woodchips exports industry. The economy is strong, despite the extremly high taxes. Commerce is the number 2 priority of the government. Capitalism in Barsaca is growing, and the Supreme court is dominated by corporation-friendly judges. All roads are privatized, and owning a car is expensive.

Barsaca currently has a trade deficit of 58 billion USD, but this situation is going to change, due to the new policy of giving foreign aid on the terms of unilateral marked access.
