The second season of the One-Day League in Cockbill Street, one of four competitions in county cricket, with matches over 50 overs and one innings a side, was surprisingly even. Many teams had a shout at winning it - after four matches, seven teams were within one point of the leader - but Woodshire broke free after a stunning streak of five successive victories, surviving several narrow escapes against Wynshire and Northset. Wynshire disappointed at times, and at other times were phenomenal, and were thus fourth at the midway stage, while CSCT had taken an early lead - only to suffer two successive losses and fall to sixth. Northset took over, and led until matchday seven, when they were trumped by the league's biggest rabbit - William Mason - who made 1 not out, his second highest score in one-day cricket, and survived to see Woodshire make it through by a wicket.

They followed up with a win over B'zugda'hiara, and even a loss to Jotneheim wasn't so crucial, but the league lead changed on matchday ten. Woodshire lost for the second time running, to Rothershire of all teams, and Ayreshire - despite a negative net run rate - could go top thanks to a six-wicket win over Northset. Ayreshire were quickly toppled, however, crumbling to a 25-run defeat to Woodshire, who went on to beat CSCT by 50 runs and establish a controlling lead. However, a three-wicket loss to Wynshire saw them throw that away, and the title eventually came down to one match - Wynshire v Ayreshire. Woodshire could have challenged, but lost their match to Northset by two runs, so with Wynshire on 16 points and Ayreshire on 15 one of the two had to pass Woodshire on 16. Ayreshire swamped Woodshire thanks to 169 from Chad Wakely, his only contribution worthy of note all season (7 innings had yielded 107 runs) - but it was enough to send them to the top after a 105-run win in the league final.

Matchday One

B'zugda'hiara had Durin Nulukkizdin smack an unbeaten 57 as they chased 104 in double-quick time at Chesham to go top of the table, while Ryan Johnston's 145 - three short of the Northset record - guided them to a surprise eight-wicket win over Jotneheim. George Fenwick became the second man to register a century as Ayreshire went down by 245 runs - Fenwick smashing a CSCT record of 161, while Rothershire smacked Wynshire by five wickets.

A frantic last-wicket partnership between Fred Mitchell (73* off 48) and Eamonn Kruskopf (71* off 38) rescued CSCT to a tie from a grim position at 177 for 5, chasing 316 to win after Starblaydi 'keeper Richard Silton had made an unbeaten 138. Richard le Comber carried his bat to 135 as Woodshire chased down 273 to win against CSCT, who had earlier seen Duroth Mornerzabar smack 106 against William Mason's pace bowling, which took four for 46, and Woodshire won their third match in a row. Koradrel Starchaser made an unbeaten 30 and was the highest scorer for Rothershire, who wobbled to 91 in a humiliating 178-run loss to Northset, their fourth successive loss. B'zugda'hiara posted a target of 289, yet still lost to Ayreshire, while James Bartholomew took three for 10 as Wynshire won their second match in a row and climbed to third in an amazingly close table.

Matchday Six

Geoff Sandiford took four and Joanna Hales three, and it was something of a miracle that Woodshire came past 200 after having been 46 for 6. However, James Powys made an unbeaten 70, left-arm medium pacer Anna Benning, with nine one-day wickets in her career, took three wickets to repair the damage done by her five-ball duck, and Wynshire crumbled up in a heap for 150 as Woodshire recorded an incredible comeback victory. CSCT needed a win against Northset, but instead fell to 57 for 7, and Alan Cass scored 60 not out as Northset won by five wickets and defended their table lead. Despite a rare Peter Gruggen failure, Rothershire still made 259 for 6, only to be thwarted by Cathie Kingdon, who made 46, as the dwarves made it home with two wickets to spare. The Starblaydis playing for Ayreshire had a field day with the trolls, as Ricardo Sanchez made 108, Davros Black an unbeaten 81 to go with one for 8, and Pavel Narmonov took four for 22, and Ayreshire won by 181 runs.

Anna Benning, hero of the last match, went wicketless for Woodshire as they bowled Northset out for 242 in the top-of-the-table battle. Then, Woodshire crumbled to 121 for 7, but Matt Brown hit an impervious 84 and Will Mason stayed at the crease as Woodshire scrambled home by a wicket - their fifth win in a row, after two initial losses. CSCT couldn't even stay in for fifty overs against out-of-form Rothershire - Mary Mumford, the left-arm spinner with one List-A wicket under her belt, took four for 34 at the VCG - but a good bowling effort saw them win by 38 runs. Jotneheim lost yet again, by ten runs to the dwarves, who recorded their second win in a row to go second in the table. Ayreshire's good form came to an abrupt end against Wynshire, who bowled them out for 103 to win by 156 runs, and both teams were stuck in mid-table.

Matchday Eight

Woodshire's five-game streak looked to come to an end, when they were bowled (and fielded - their innings included three run outs) out for 179, but only Ivar Axehacker, with 41, survived the bowling onslaught as Woodshire beat second-placed B'zugda'hiara by 73 runs. Jotneheim, precariously placed in seventh, enjoyed an easy 52-run win over Northset, while Pavel Narmonov became the scapegoat as Ayreshire - chasing 255 to win - were on 254 for 9 with Narmonov facing left-armer James Brooks. He tried to work it away on the off-side, but got an inside edge and was bowled, resulting in CSCT's second tie of the season. And four wickets from Geoff Sandiford saved Wynshire against Wooden-spoon candidates Rothershire, as they won by 19 runs to go second in the table.

Matchday Nine

Jotneheim were the last team to beat Woodshire, and they found the flaws in the fragile batting line-up yet again, as Woodshire's luck ran out and they failed to chase 239 - Rabindra Ol-wairain top-scoring with 43 - and Jotneheim won their second match in a row. Wynshire's good bowling failed to stop CSCT making 272 for 6, and they lost by 48 runs - their first loss in three matches, as Wynshire failed to close the two-point gap to Woodshire and were overtaken by CSCT instead. On a flat pitch in K'haz'bak, Bjorn Spearthrower made a century in 67 balls and eventually closed on 172 - both new club records, the first a league record - and Petteri Goldthrower took four for 24 as B'zugda'hiara won by 158 runs and advanced to second place in the table. In the final match, wicketkeeper Gavin Davies made a maiden century for Rothershire as they scored 284 for 5, but Ricardo Sanchez made 125 not out to guide Ayreshire to the target and third place.

Matchday Ten

Woodshire appeared to have lost their golden touch, falling to 139 all out against rock-bottom Rothershire despite Richard le Comber recording 61, and then having Rothershire on the rack at 109 for 8 - but Mary Mumford escaped to make an unbeaten 58 and secure victory by two wickets. Ricardo Sanchez recorded his third match-winning century of the season, in four matches, as Ayreshire beat Northset by six wickets and advanced to the top of the table. Northset, meanwhile, had just lost their fourth match in a row, and were sixth. George Fenwick made a five-ball duck, but CSCT still made 295 for 7, and beat in-form Jotneheim by 74 runs - their fourth successive match without defeat, as they jumped up to second place. Wynshire swept aside B'zugda'hiara's weak batting for 192 and won by eight wickets, thus climbing to fourth place - one point off the leaders.

Despite 65 from Harold Hanbury, the fizz went out, and Anna Benning's 58 gave her humanoid of the match honours. Northset found form again, taking Joanna Hales for 84 runs as they chased 293 with an over to spare against Wynshire. 92 from George Fenwick wasn't enough for a first-place-chasing CSCT, as they suffered an agonising eight-run loss against B'zugda'hiara, who went up to second place thanks to the win. Rothershire won their second match in a row, as Jotneheim fell back to old crimes and were bowled out for 148, and an unbeaten 62 from Peter Gruggen guided them to a four-wicket win.

Matchday Twelve

Woodshire were well on the way to an one-day title after this victory, sent to them by an excessively poor performance by CSCT skipper George Bradley. With a side niggle that he thought would cause himself trouble while batting, he sent Woodshire in to bat, and got smacked for 292 - Xavi Conssionati scored 111, and CSCT were beaten by 49 runs. Bradley made a five-ball duck, and CSCT were moving out of the title running. Rothershire were on song, and recorded a 43-run win over Northset, despite only scampering 212 for 4 in their fifty overs. Ayreshire's bowling was surprisingly effective, as they took B'zugda'hiara out for 171, and recorded a four-wicket win - despite astonishing figures from 16-year-old B'zugda'hiara medium-pacer Eric Parker of 5-4-1-2. However, Ayreshire kept up in the title battle, one point behind Woodshire. The final match was one for the record books. Andrew Thessman made 153 off just 130 balls for Wynshire - both the fastest century and highest score in Wynshire's history - third-wicket partnership with Fred Borrington was worth 177 runs (a league record), and Wynshire made 280 for 6. Then, Eric Crosse took the first five wickets for a pittance (figures 3-2-4-5, also the best bowling figures for Wynshire), Frederic Hinks wrapped up the Jotneheim innings, as they subsided for 33 - the lowest league score ever, and Wynshire won by 247 runs.

Wynshire 280-6 (50 ovs) beat Jotneheim 33 ao (8.2 ovs) by 247 runs

Matchday Thirteen

Wynshire caught up with Woodshire before the final match of the season - after limiting them to 260 for 6, James Bartholomew and Fred Hinks both taking three for 39, a Mason-less Woodshire were defied by Fred Borrington, whose unbeaten 88 guided Wynshire to a three-wicket victory. Thus, the teams were tied before the last matchday, Wynshire leading on net run rate. CSCT posted 305 for 8 against Northset, and yet still lost, Siobhan Harper making 94 and Jim Pickering slashing a four through square leg on the last delivery. B'zugda'hiara recorded a shaky five-wicket victory against Rothershire, never really settling in with the bat but saved by the low target of 166, while Ayreshire, who were chasing the table lead, fell to 191 all out against Jotneheim - left-arm pacer pair Dravite and Betafite sharing six wickets - and failed to stop a Leucite onslaught. Leucite made 70 off 52 balls, and Jotneheim cruised to the target with nearly 20 overs to spare - but were still seventh.

Matchday Fourteen

Woodshire waved goodbye to the league title, losing in an agonisingly close match with Northset. Darren Parkinson had scored 125 not out, and despite three for 64 from William Mason, Northset posted 276 for 9. In reply, Woodshire made their way to 158 for 2 thanks to scores in the 80s from Rabindra Ol-wairain and Warwick Douglas, but imploded to 259 for 9. William Mason hung in for 7, but was run out with four balls to spare, as Woodshire needed three runs from five balls - Northset's second successive win, but it came too late. Koradrel Starchaser turned out with a good performance for Rothershire, taking five for 44 and scoring 19 not out, but the rest of the team didn't bother to turn up and Rothershire were trounced by 140 runs against CSCT, whose efforts came too late to count. B'zugda'hiara made their task difficult, needing a big win over Jotneheim but only scampering 226 runs, and an unbeaten century from Goethite ensured that Jotneheim swamped the dwarves by six wickets - recovering from 12 for 3. In the final match, Eric Crosse put Ayreshire in to bat in what turned out to be a title-decider between Wynshire and Ayreshire, and 169 from this season's batting find - Chad Wakely - set a daunting task of hitting 323 to win the title. Wynshire were never near it - their top order folded meekly, and they finished with 217 for 8, having lost the match by 105 runs and the title with it.
