The People's Republic of Der aj is a massive, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its punitive income tax rates. It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Education, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 98%. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.

Der aj has a Democratic Socialist government. Political Freedoms in Der aj are regarded as average, while the government is omnipresent and has much say in the economy, with citizens having few economic rights. The citizens of Der aj are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

Military

Personnel

Because of the patriotic nature of Der aj’s citizens, able bodied volunteers are never in short supply. In some towns, it is custom for all young men and women, when reaching the age of eighteen, to join a branch of the military. Because of this common mentality there are often entire divisions made up of soldiers from the same city or town.

Technology

Der aj’s defense seems to be the primary focus of the government with 23% of the yearly budget going into the military. On average, the Der ajian government spends 2,994,107,240,803.39 Credits on the armed forces. As it stands now, most of Der aj’s military hardware has been purchased from other nations. The Der ajian government is currently attempting to cease this dependence on foreign arms by developing multiple weapons programs. Most of the budget set aside for the military is spent on these programs.

Currently, the weapons that have been turned out by these programs are merely modified, often improved versions of foreign machines of war but Der aj’s government says that brand new, highly advanced machines of war will be coming out of the factories as soon as 2010.
