The Rogue Nation of Don Flanioso is a huge, economically powerful nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 486 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 79%, and even higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Basket Weaving.
Married couples must call each other "darling" or risk a fine, citizens are regularly shot for parking on the double-yellow line, dog breeding has been banned in accordance with recent animal experimentation laws, and all footpaths have tollbooths. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Don Flanioso's national animal is the Al Pacino, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Flanmark.
