The Kingdom of Einmyria[1] is a temperate kingdom within the region of the Federalist Europe Alliance and is ruled by a monarchy. For many members in the region, the Kingdom of Einmyria is fairly well known for it's Oktoberfest, which occurs during the last three days of September, as it's renowned Einmyric spirits festival coincides with the founding of the Kingdom.

History

Ancient Beginnings?

It is unknown when the Kingdom of Einmyria came to being exactly, as the city of Erdu (now Quetzal), in which the royal records were kept, was sacked and burnt many times during the Dark Ages due to the lack of a centralized military. The earliest reliable accounts of the Kingdom are from Ancient China, by way of a famous account of well-traveled Buddhist monk Fan-Tzu, during the beginning of the Tang dynasty. He had travelled to the mystical island kingdom of 'E-mi-ya,' in 620 A.D., and spoke of it's pungent cheese and spirits festival in great detail.

Culture

Beliefs / Faith / Religion

The Kingdom of Einmyria is predominantly free-thinker (about 90%) but welcomes all beliefs, religions and faiths that do "no harm" and "no foul." The recent mandatory military service in the Kingdom of Einmyria has come to clash with certain minority faiths which forbid the bearing of arms. The Kingdom of Einmyria has since proposed an alternative service--either community or government service--for all those who wish to opt out of the military service, breaking the deadlock to what could have been the nation's fervent issue of the century.

Pop Culture

Literature

The Kingdom of Einmyria boasts a healthy plethora of writers, poets, screenwriters, playwriters, and movie directors, perhaps due to it's socially progressive atmosphere, where it seems as if one can do almost anything within reason.

  • Y magazine has been touted by many in the capital city of Quetzal as the best-selling news, travel, and pop culture magazine in the Kingdom and has won several regional and international awards. Naysayers however insist that the magazine is merely a government loudspeaker for propaganda statements. Government officials have yet to confirm or deny the allegations.

Music

The government of the Kingdom of Einmyria supports it's own symphony orchestra, which often accompanies the Royal Enymric Opera. It is said to be one of the finest in the region.

Television

The Kingdom of Einmyria currently has two public Television stations. One (KOEN3) produces the local news as well as government-sponsored productions in movies, dance, art, and music. The other (OASIS) is government funded but entirely privately run, educational channel (which can be said to be a mix of National Geographic, the History Channel, and Discovery Channel programming).

Tourism

The Kingdom of Einmyria welcomes tourists all year round. Many visitors say that Spring is the best time to visit, with the Royal Gardens at Quetzal in full bloom.

Sites

  • The Royal Gardens at Quetzal
    • This site is to be appreciated as it is full of priceless, donated, sculptures by international artisans. Aspiring artists from the nearby art school can often be seen sketching passerbys as well as the pretty scenery. This amazing lake-side garden used to be the private playground of the Royal Family during the 16th to 18th century. It was recently opened to the public, and is open from dawn to dusk.
  • Ruins at Oricon
    • The Ruins At Oricon near Adelphi is currently being excavated by HRH King Alexei (the previous monarch) and his team of Royal Archaeologists. While not open to the general public, one may write to the Ministry of Culture to obtain special permission for a guided tour, which occurs around once a month.

Festivals and Events

  • Oktoberfest
    • A yearly festival that celebrates both the founding of the Kingdom and celebrates it's many local spirits and cheese making ventures.

Geography

The Kingdom of Einmyria neighbors Declivity and Gethighland. It is somewhat mountainous and has three main great lakes, Lake Omnia, Lake Puritas, and Lake Faraway. There are many cities and towns that border the lakes, so water transportation at the lakes are fairly routine. The capital of the Kingdom is currently Quetzal (previously known as Erdu in the ancient past), but the largest economically booming city is Eyric.

Economy

The main public ventures in the Kingdom of Einmyria have been in Furniture Restoration industry, followed by Cheese Exports and Uranium Mining. Furniture antiques are highly prized within the kingdom, and the Einmyrians take great pride in their cheese-making abilities. Uranium has been a stable source of the country's nuclear energy.

Government

The Kingdom of Einmyria is ruled by a constitutionally elected monarchy. Currently it's UN Category is that of: Father Knows Best State.

Government Policy

Energy and the Environment

Energy

  • The Kingdom of Einmyria has explicitly stated that it is looking into environmentally sustainable research for the nation's energy needs.
    • Much of the tax that the government earns is fed back into the economy by way of large amounts of R&D funding into areas like biofuel and bio-based environments for future space travel, and heavily subsidizing solar panels for homes in order to reduce the dependence on electricity.
    • As the government has already put in place an efficient mass public transport system in major cities in the kingdom, the next policy implementation is gearing towards making gasoline and gasoline vehicles more expensive than electricity, hydrogen, hybrid, solar, and other kinds of alternative fuel source vehicles so that it's citizens will be inclined to switch more readily.
    • The government has put in place a policy in which the kingdom is to replace all solely gasoline-powered vehicles by 2012.
    • The government is looking into creating green home projects, where heating and/or cooling systems are completely natural or helped along by architectural designs.
      • An international design contest to design the Royal Residence is to be set for November, piquing the interest of many architectural firms and architects in the world.
    • The government is considering a carbon tax for all individuals (not only corporations), and has spent a significant portion of it's environmental budget on educating the citizens to conserve energy.

Environment

  • The kingdom has also made the komodo dragon, a highly endangered species, it's national animal, in the hopes that greater awareness will help the komodo dragon's plight.

Foreign Policy

The Kingdom of Einmyria is currently a member of the United Nations. The Ambassador from the Kingdom of Einmyria is Roselle Fairbanks.

High Profile Government Officials

Royalty

Her Royal Highness (HRH) Queen Joanne

Queen Joanne (27, born of Quetzal city) was elected to the monarchy position as she returned to the Kingdom of Einmyria from abroad, having pursued and obtained a Doctorate degree in Anthropology, and having had a popular political profile during her younger days as an outspoken liberal centrist. She is the great-niece of previously elected monarch, Alexei, who has since retired from managing the country to oversee Archaeological digs of some import in the countryside. She is said to be very fond of Weißbier.

Ministries

  • Foreign Ministry
    • Alexander Leeuvenhoek (52, born of Eyric city) is the foreign minister in the Kingdom of Einmyria. An important figure in the government, he oversees all foreign affairs and tries to ensure good relations with neighbors. Under his supervision, the Kingdom of Einmyria has applied to the United Nations.
    • Roselle Fairbanks (49, born of Ersatz) is the Kingdom of Einmyria's representative at the United Nations. She has had much experience working in the diplomatic services.
  • Ministry of the Interior
    • Erica Solstein (34, born of Quetzal city) is the interior minister in the Kingdom of Einmyria. She handles all major national interests and issues, and all major city mayors must consult her before making major decisions. She is said to be ruthlessly efficient and is vowing to stamp out crime and corruption, which has been growing increasingly rampant.
  • Ministry of Culture
    • Galdric Umptyhump (37, born of Ersatz) is the Minister of Culture. He is said to be travelling around the kingdom sampling various Einmyric spirits in time for the all-important Oktoberfest, and of course, telling everyone to try one of Kindom of Einmyria's main exports, the Einmyric cheese.
  • Ministry of Energy and the Environment
    • Wendy Rashid (29, born of Quetzal City) is the Minister of Energy and the Environment in the Kingdom of Einmyria. She is said to be the force of nature behind the efforts to push the limits of environmental sustainability.

Recent Issues in the Kingdom of Einmyria

Domestic

  • Should Democracy Be Compulsory?
    • Official Government Stance: "It's not contradictory at all," argues political commentator Larry Fellow. "The fact is, if not everyone votes, the outcome isn't truly representative. Some groups--like elderly gun nuts--vote more often than others. That's why we always end up with such terrible politicians."
    • Queen Joanne has made a further statement in Y magazine in response to the matter: "Voting is a right and privilege to the citizens of Einmyria. The voting process should not be taken for granted nor should it be taken lightly."
    • Voting has since become compulsory.
  • Compulsory Organ Harvesting Proposed
    • Official Government Stance: "It's not as crazy as it sounds," says Dr. Aaron Dredd. "Every day, people die because we don't have the organs to save them. Well, that and widespread under-funding of the health system. But the point is, if the government allowed us to take organs from dead people, we could save hundreds of lives a year. And come on, it's not like dead people need them."
    • Interior Minister Erica Solstein has made a statement to this issue (covered by KOEN3) by saying, "Our nation is currently experiencing an amazingly high mortality rate, which needs to be addressed immediately. If we do not take drastic measures now, and implement this policy, many people will die needlessly. What do we mean by organ donations being mandatory? It simply means that every citizen will automatically donate their organs once they are in the system. If a citizen wishes to opt out due to personal or faith based reasons, you are still free to do so. You only need to write a formal letter to the Minstry of Health to that regard."

Foreign

  • The Kingdom of Einmyria joins the United Nations.
    • Leeuvenhoek: "It is with great pleasure that I announce the new UN representative for the Kingdom of Einmyria, Roselle Fairbanks. She has been part of the diplomatic service for more than 20 years and she will be an asset to our nation."
