Government Structure

The Equilism Commonwealth has an established and well-working Constitution. The government consists of three branches: The Executive branch, the Legislative branch and the Judicial branch. These branches work work closely together in the Equilism Council. The region does not have a strict policy on the Division of Powers. Members of the Equilism Council are The President, Prime Minister, Senators, Ministers and Advisors. The President, Prime Minister and Senator are elected offices. Other positions are appointed.

The Equilism Council is the supreme legislative body of the region, and can overrule decisions made by any Executive officer or by general vote. Most decisions in the region are made by general vote of all citizens, with the Council reserving the right to overrule these decisions in only extreme cases. Further, the Council is empowered to make decisions on sensitive matters without consulting the whole region. In the past the Council made all decisions regarding the region, but due to a Constitutional Amendment this was changed.

The President and Prime Minister are the two Chief Executives, and appoint the Minister of Interior, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Military, Minister of Intelligence and Immigration Minister, as well as other positions, such as Justices, Advisors and Army Commanders. The President has the right to overrule the Prime Minister when a decision can not be made jointly. The Prime Minister traditionally becomes the UN Delegate after election, the President however may claim the UN Delegacy after election. This has only happened once, when President Chaucerin was asked to retain the delegacy by the newly-elected Prime Minister, Moo-Cows with Guns.

The terms of the 8th and 9th cabinet saw signifigant reform and controversy as the region made a noticeable move to the left. The judiciary has been extensively re-defined with Justices now serving 'for life' once confirmed. During this period, the region's population bubble burst dropping back to better than 200 nations after a rise to more than 300.
