The Field Marshall 's Protection of Germany-Logania is a massive, socially progressive nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate population of 7.331 billion enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Education, although the Environment and Law & Order are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.
A large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, the government regularly hires contractors to construct high rise apartments, and the tenet of free speech is held dear. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Germany-Logania's national animal is the Pelican, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Creole.

Note: This is an issue brought up in the Germany-Loganian legislative body (the Puma). I would like the opinions of the other nation-states for this is a hot topic in our country. If you agree with the argument. I will be happy to right an amendment proposal.
"Field Marshall, Mr. Vice President, Mr. Speaker, fellow members of the Puma:
Nothing makes us prouder than to once again be part of the esteemed Texas Representative Council [applause]. It has been two years since our last participation; however, due to the Marshall's tireless efforts at re-election and the effort of the people of Germany-Logania, we are back in business [applause]! We are ready to deal with the issues facing Texas today and to best represent the ten nations apportioned to us. Nothing will stop the Marshall from delivering justice to the greatest region in the world: Texas [applause]. However, an issue has been raised that must be addressed. Although it may seem a trivial matter, we wish to clear the air by eliminating any confusion that may result. According to the Texas Constitution,
'The purpose of the Council shall include:
1. To mediate any internal disputes that may threaten Regional peace, security or prosperity.
2. The adjudicate any internal complaints and will assist in formulating responses and courses of action in international affairs.
3. The preside in matters regarding breaches of the Texas Constitution.'
The Constitution of Germany-Logania (and coincidently the United States) lists all these powers, supposedly given to the Legislative branch of Texas, to the Judicial branch [murmur]! Our arguments proceed as follows:
1. In the GL Constitution, the job of the Justice of the Peace is to inform both sides of a dispute between ordinances of the grievances and the demands of the other side. The Justice of the Peace is clearly part of the Judicial branch of government.
2. In the GL Constitution, the job of the Supreme Court is to settle disputes between the ordinances in CIVIL cases. The Supreme Court is of course part of the Judicial Branch.
3. Finally, in the GL Constitution, the job of the Supreme Court is to determine the constitutionality of a law passed. However, it is the job of Congress (obviously part of the Legislative branch) to settle treaties between nations. This power is given to the Texas Cabinet in the Texas Constitution.
So are the nations of Texas: a) as the states of a nation or b ) as separate nations in allegiance? The Texas Constitution suggests "a" of the first two statements but "b" of the third. According to the Texas Constitution, one council may make and determine constitutionality of laws. This is a severe breach in the system of checks and balances. Good people of the Puma, I ask you, what kind of government are we about to enter? Do we participate in a system that mocks are own [murmur]? I say we petition the Texas government to allot these powers to a new branch: the 'Texas Judiciary Council' or the 'Texas Supreme Court'. It is not only our duty to represent the people by upholding the Texas Constitution, but to also protect them form it [applause]. I say we start doing our job now! So, we (the people of Germany-Logania) ask the Field Marshall to raise this issue in the Texas Representative Council. Thank you for your time good people [applause]."

Hello fellow Texans. As some of you may know, I recently turned 7 billion. Yes, my nation has stuck with this silly game that’s touched our hearts for so long. Now to the point. Every time the great nation of Germany-Logania turns another billion, our faithful leader Big Tex has always sent me a congratulatory telegram. Since I am no longer extremely active, I do not get many telegrams. So since my nation reached the ripe population of three billion, I have keep the ever-punctual Big Tex’s telegrams. Some may have inquired approximately how long it takes to gain another billion. Germany-Logania offers these rare statistics. Partial credit for the findings should also go to NewTexas for their indirect assistance. The Germany-Loganian archives are also to be awarded plaudits. Incidentally, Big Tex’s records allow us to see the rate at which the “big pops” are falling.

I have run the numbers through an incredibly complicated machine we Louisianians call a “cal-cu-la-tor.” Did I say that right? Anyway, the results have determined that the average time between billions is 165 days exactly. Upon applying the Q-test to the term which deviates the most from the average (156), the value of the Q-exp is .6667. The Q-critical for four terms is .7600. Q-exp < Q-crit therefore all values are valid, and the true average is 165 days (I’m a chemical engineer….give me a break). As for the number of nations dropping out from the top 56 since 663 days ago, the values rank in at 9,7,3,and 4 respectively. As many of you know, a sequence in Khazar’s mathematical model of Brownian motion used to describe random movements of particles in a suspended fluid includes 9 7 3 4. The next number in the sequence is a 9. Therefore, nine nations will be knocked off in the next 165 days leaving a total of 24 of the original 56 largest nation-states. Three weeks ago, Germany-Logania was one of the safest nations in the world. Crime was totally unknown, the nation had a crack police force, and the military was at full strength for defense. Also, Germany-Logania had the smartest citizens in the region because of the large amount of taxes going to the education system. The ruler, Field Marshall L.J.S. (Master and Commander of Germany-Logania), believed his citizens were happy. He thought that, if there were no crime and the people lived good, they wouldn't miss their Civil and Political Rights. He considered eliminating phase 3 from his famous "Three Phase Plan." Phase 1 (creating a powerful government in which he had all control) and phase 2 (supressing Civil and Political Rights to stamp out radicals and corrupt politicians) were complete. Eliminating phase 3 (giving the rights back to the now responcible people) was a very real possibility.
While debating this issue, the UN came out with a "General Happiness Pole." This pole determined the overall happiness of the citizens of a naton. Germany-Logania's ranking was 194 out of 203! The Field Marshall was shocked. He couldn't believe their results. So, worried about the happiness of his people, he formed a council to travel the nation, interview the citizens, and locate the problem. Many were afraid to speak out against the Field Marshall. This touched him deeply. This was not how the Field Marshall wanted his people to see him. The results of the pole were simple- the citizens wanted more Political and Civil Rights. Wanting to do anything to please his people, he granted their wishes. He granted the people many Civil Freedoms that were once denied to them. The UN Civil Rights ranking went up from "OUTLAWED" to "AVERAGE!." The people went wild with excitement. One reporter interviewed a man who said, "Thank the good Marshall for this blessing. It is like a huge burden has been lifted from us, and we are all much happier." The Marshall was greatly pleased to hear his people loving him again. But did he stop there? Heck no!
He created a council to find good, honest people to be part of his new governmet. The type of government will resemble that of the Duma. Good people will be ELECTED (yes, I said elected!) to represent a certain area of Germany-Logania. There will be one representative for every 5 million people. This will put the "House of Representatives" to about over 120 members. These members will report the concerns of the nation to the Field Marshall who will act to satisfy his people. The council is still finding good candidates so the Political Freedoms UN ranking is still "FEW." However, the Field Marshall expects to have the first Duma in seccion by the end of the month.
Citizens are going wild beerchug.gif . Another is quoted as saying, "Wow! It's all happening so fast. It is as if an evil dicator has gone, and a kind protector has taken his place." Going on this now famous quote, the people of Germany-Logania, in their first ever election (97% turnout!), voted to give the Field Marshall a new title. He is now know as "Wise and Just Protector of Germany-Logania."
Many "Progressive Reformers," as they are being called after America's political movement of the early 1900's, have suggested many changes. The Marshall, in another groundbreaking decision, decided to abandon his foolish quest to create a government in his religious image and adopt a more tolerant policy. The people, in their second election (98% turnout), decided to follow their native Louisianian ancestry. The national currency, formally known as the Milan, is now the Creole. And the national bird, formally the Dove, is now the Pelican. The income taxes will be lowered significantly, and the nation will adopt a national song (formally, the country didn't have one). The people voted for, of course, former Louisiana Governer Jimmy Davis's song "You are My Sunshine." The people of Germany-Logania are electrified, peppy, and eager to participate in the next election for G.L. Representatives. The people have a new sence of worth.
The Field Marshall himself is quoted as saying, "I am glad to shake off that bad reputation of 'Psychotic Dictatorship' and adopt a more democratic stand in politics. I just want my people to be happy. I took my monthly tour of the nation yesterday in order to check on it. For the first time in many months, people were coming up to me with smiling faces and thanking me for my work. It does my heart good!" He also wants to keep a closer relationship with his people. So, now he is having "Fireside Chats" like the famous American president Franklin Roosevelt. He will be telling the citizens about foreign policy and business in TEXAS and other regions. He wants the nation to be able to give him advice on the current, important issues. He realizes the that he is not always right and appreciates his people's advice. So we, the citizens of Germany-Logania, will see what else our heroic leader has in store for us in the future. This reporter just wants to tell the Field Marshall that he is on the right track, and we appreciate what his is doing. Keep up the good work Field Marshall L.J.S. !

The Birth of a Nation-State
Hello, this is the ruler of Germany-Logania speaking. You can call me Field Marshall. I moved to the fine region of TEXAS at the beginning of February 2004. I have loved every minute of it. Germany-Logania is located on the eastern border of TEXAS (#23 on the map). I requested this location because I wanted to remain on friendly terms with my old state. Yes, I am a Louisiana man and proud of it! The geography of the nation is simple. In the north are the cities of Shreve's Port and Monroe. I the center is my hometown city, Alexandria. Below Alexandria is the capitol of Germany-Logania, Baton-Berlin. In the south are the cities of River Charles, Lafayette, and Even Newer Orleans.
Alright, enough about the geography. Let's talk about the people. My government is Catholic and power-hungry (no Catholic jokes please). We do, however, practice tolerance. Catholicism is favored but all religions are welcome. Catholics receive no more benefits that any other citizen. We all live in peace and work together for the sake of the nation. The nation's main concern are currently safety and education. This nation is home to some of the finest colleges in the world like Tiger State University and Germany-Logania Tech. Crime is totally unknown! Murder is see as the ultimate sin. There has not been one in Germany-Logania's entire history. It is one of the safest nation in world. Children can play on the street corner without their parents worrying. I like this kind of world. I manipulated the system and made myself absolute ruler. I believe that I know what is right for the nation. That is the only drawback in this beautiful nation. Politics and Civil Rights do not exist. I believe that those nutty protesters and greedy politicians would try to corrupt the system. My plan was to try to eliminate these people in what I called "Phase 2" of my plan for a powerful nation ("Phase 1" was creating a nation completely in my control). I think my nation is ready for "Phase 3." This phase is letting the people of Germany-Logania have elections. I'm not a crazy dictator. I know I can be wrong. I want to create an opposition party so they can give me good suggestions, I like to hear my people's concerns so I can help them. I really care about my people. I plan to raise my nation's happiness ratio.
Now is the economy. I must fine a way to keep my economy high with my Civil and Political Rights also high. Some nations claim it's impossible. I will sacrifice my "Powerhouse Economy" to make my people happy, though! The amazing thing about my nation that has marveled millions is that my nation is anti-business. That's right. I am a man of the people , a trustbuster! I break up business giants and give them to the small business leaders. I tax the rich more than the poor. I believe all people in my nation should receive relatively the same income. People in my nation don't get too rich. My people love me because I fight for the common man!
My military isn't overpowering. It is just strong to repel an invasion. It was part of "Phase 1." I built up my military and required (and still require) compulsory military service. I have no aims to conquer. My goal was to be a peacekeeping nation. Elections are coming up soon and I hope to be some sort of ambassador or the Secretary of Defense. Vote for me (please)!
The culture in my region is currently 100% Louisianian, but I am trying to blend in some TEXAS values. My people easily take to the fine culture. We like the arts and a good sports game. We also believe in intelligence and refined manners. We want to show the world that we are civilized.

Germany-Loganian Civil War
This is an official message to all TEXAS nation:
As many of you know from my previous story, for some time now, the Field Marshall has been doing his best to turn the once powerful dictatorship of Germany-Logania into a more powerful republic. He also wished to give the people more civil rights. The civil rights of Germany-Logania shot up from "few" to "excellent" in solely a month! However, the Marshall knew that it would not be so easy to turn all of the democratic powers of the state over to the people. Stability was the reason he took control in the first place. He single-handedly turned a two-bit nation into a world power with an incredible military. However, the Marshall saw how his people felt oppressed. He loved his brothers greatly and felt sorrow in his heart. The Marshall gave up his conquering days and turned his attention to more domestic affairs. The people of Germany-Logania became happy and loved their benevolent leader once again. Elections were held for the first time in Germany-Loganian history. The Puma (senate) elected by the different Parishes would advise the Marshall and bring to him the problems of the nation. The Marshall had not fully entrusted power to the Puma for fear that corrupt politicians would run the nation into the ground. He did not want to make the same mistake his previous region, Myth Drannor, made.
Corruption destroyed the entire region and almost took Germany-Logania with it. Fortunately, the Marshall (the lead General of Myth Drannor at the time) waged war upon the evil delegate and his minions. After the country won its independence, it was annexed into the great region of TEXAS where it has remained a loyal son to this very day. The nation gained great favor and friends in this region. It even retained its former power by getting elected to the TEXAS government by its fellow TEXANS.
The Marshall went on a crusade to remove all corrupt politicians from office. Most people were happy with his efforts. However, many citizens in Northern Germany-Logania saw this crusade as a "Salem Witch Trial." This is perfectly understandable since most politicians removed were from this region. The north was known for being a region corrupted by the rich, greedy, and power-hungry. But, until two months ago, they were not looked upon as a problem by the majority of common-folk in the south, east, west, and central parts of the nation. The removal of their corrupt puppets from power angered the northerners. They began an expensive campaign to spread propaganda about revolution throughout the state. Many, who also felt that "republicanization" was coming too slowly, joined the movement. What started out as a protest soon grew into armed masses. The forked tongues of rich businessmen at the lead of this party turned peaceful protested into soldiers. The east and west parts of the state soon joined the "Pelican Party" as it came to be known.
The Marshall realized the growing opposition. The constitution of the country made by the people allowed peaceful protest, and the Marshall supported this gladly. But when weapons became involved, it was his job to restore order. A conference was held in Natchitoches (a North city) to resolve the issues. The conference was a disaster. The northern debaters were clearly hired not to make peace but to make trouble. They accused the Marshall and the Puma for crimes against the country and its people. The audience was mostly Pelican supporters. The television broadcast pictured thousands of people cheering this new, righteous party on. The broadcast made it seem as if the whole state was on the side of this new party. The excellent defense of the government fell upon deaf ears. The ambassadors from the Puma left in shame under a shower of beer cans and crumpled balls of paper.
The Pelican Party had become a great threat. The Marshall knew something had to be done. He planned to send troops into the North simply to restore order. When the Pelican leaders got wind of this, they spread the word and conveyed this action to the people as a suppression of their rights and an "invasion." They planned to strike first.
On September 1, 2004, the combined forces of the North, East, and West attacked the Central city of Alexandria (the Marshall's home town) in the infamous Battle of the Red River. Planes, tanks, and small ships invaded the poor border city from 3 directions. Tanks from the north crossed the river by way of the Purple Heart, Long, and OK Allen bridges. Boats sailed in from the West, planes flew in from the East, and ground troops attacked from all sides. The city of 50,000 was blasted to rubble before any backup could mobilize. The Germany-Loganian Civil War had begun.
The force of 550,000,000 troops soon swept South and conquered key cities such as Lake Charles (100,000,000 population) and Lafayette (250,000,000 population). The rebel forces pushed all the way to the border of the Great Cajun River. The combined forces of Baton Rouge (capital) and Even Newer Orleans (largest city) have stopped the progress of the Pelicans at the river. The force of 675,000,000 set up an impregnable line that froze the Pelicans in their tracks. Baton Rouge, being the industrial center of the nation, managed to put out enough guns, ammunition, and war-craft to supply the troops. The port city of Even Newer Orleans sent their world famous battle fleet up the Great Cajun River. The armada of small boats put together by the Pelicans in the small Red River were crushed. The Battle of Baton Rouge has been at a stand-still for two months because the fleet is now useless since only the smaller boats could navigate tiny Red River.
The Marshall is on the front lines trying to win the fight. He regretfully must resign from his TEXAS post of Secretary of Immigration for the war is taking up all his attention. He is greatly saddened by this but hope to one day return to the council. He also ask that other nations not get involved on either side of the war. This is a Germany-Loganian issue and foreign interference would be considered a crime against the country. However, normal trade is still open between nations on both sides of the battlefield. The Marshall looks forward to seeing you all again in TEXAS one day. Good luck with your nations.
Part 2:
When last we left the Germany-Loganian troops, they were pitted against the rebel Pelican Army under the leadership of General Savoy with only a river separating the two forces. Germany-Loganian intelligence revealed that the Pelican forces called in reinforcements from the North and West. Under the cover of darkness in one of the greatest military moves in Germany-Loganian history, 100,000 troops were shipped from Baton Rouge to Lake Charles via the Great Gulf. The Germany-Logania troops landed on Tumminello Beach in the greatest sea-born invasion in WORLD-history. The troops cut off the Pelican reinforcements and took the cities of Lake Charles and Lafayette back. The troops, unbeknown to the Pelicans, then moved East towards Baton Rouge on foot. The Pelicans became trapped in West Baton Rouge. Their supplies were cut off, and they have been under siege for 42 days. With their entire army trapped in Portsburg and a massive campaign underway to retake the North, the Pelicans are expected to surrender any day. The Shrevesport campaign (as it has come to be known by the troops) has pushed all the way to the "Pelican Line." The cities of Shreveport, Ruston, and Monroe (the last Northern strongholds) have yet to fall. Once the Pelican army surrenders and more Germany-Loganian troops can be dedicated to the North, these cities will soon fall or surrender. Thank you all for your support during these trying times. My nation shall need some help in rebuilding our demolished cities after this war is over. Many central cities are nothing but rubble. The Field Marshall will appreciate your assistance is warding off possible invaders during our vunerable period.
Part 3:
On January 11th at exactly 9:00 AM, the Pelican forces entrenched at West Baton Rouge surrendered to the Germany-Loganian army. After a month of bombardment and starvation, General Savoy raised the white flag above the Versailles Palace. The Treaty of Oberlin was signed by both General Savoy and Field Marshall L.J.S. on the FMS Beleawood (one of the few undamaged ships of the war). The remaining members of the Pelican Army are now being taken in and fed. General Savoy has been given a government position to ensure democratic freedoms increase.
On national television in the enormous Pelican Stadium, the Marshall made his now famous V-Day speech: "Fellow Germany-Loganians. This has been a terrible, trying time for our great nation. There have been many lives and assets lost. But I promise you that we shall rebuild! Some Loyalists ask 'Why don't we punish these traitors? They fought against us! They deserve to be executed.' Well, I do not agree with this. I do not see this as the right path, and I do not see how you can speak about your brothers this way. These fine gentlemen are no traitors. They are simply sheep who have lost their way. These men were not fighting against me but for their freedom. Their freedom from democratic inferiority. These men are farmers, businessmen, teachers, even members of my army. Our nation has been put through a great test. And we have passed! Together, not as Pelicans or Loyalists but as Germany-Loganians, we shall unite and rebuild our great nation better and stronger. General Savoy is not an evil man. He is one of the noblest and brightest gentlemen it is my privlige to know. I have put him in charge of the democratic bureau to ensure everyone's voice is heard. Can you not think of a better man for the job? Hensforth, the nation of Germany-Logania shall no longer be a dictatorship, but a democracy." (crowd cheers) "Let us welcome our brothers back into society as would we welcome home soldiers victorious in battle and pray that our people never do battle again!" As the forces of the defeated Pelican Army marched into the stadium, millions cheered the birth of a new, stronger nation as two armies embraced each other as brothers-in-arms.
The Marshall also gave great praise to the nation of Channelview. Their efforts kept the resistance minimal and allowed both sides to receive proper medical attention. This nation has shown the true meaning of friendship. It is reported that on New Years Day, the hospital ships GHS Grand Union and GHS Satyr arrived in the port of Even Newer Orleans escorted by the frigates GHS Freer, GHS Bullock, and the minesweeper GHS Niles while the Aircraft Carrier GHS Admiral Grande, the cruiser GHS Cassandra, the destroyers GHS Frelean and GHS Pollshire, the frigate GHS Padan, and the Fleet supply ship GHS Celestia maintained position about 70 Creolos (75 miles) off the coast. The Channelview fleet acted bravely as it protected Germany-Logania's waterfront from foreign invasion. The Channelview officers acted perfectly according to law and treated both sides neutrally. The Marshall commented that the Channelview navy was the finest group of officers he had ever seen in his life. He made sure that the Channelview navy was greeted at the well-guarded port of Even Newer Orleans by the flawless Germany-Loganian marines. It was his number one priority that no Channelview soldier be injured. Although a shell landed very near the GHS Satyr as the ship entered Baton Rouge, there was no incident or injuries. A Pelican gunner mistakenly took the ship to be Germany-Loganian. Once again, the Marshall is eternally grateful to Channelview and will see that they are rewarded properly. The future of our two great countries holds endless possibilities!

7 Billion Population Celebration
Germany-Logania started just as humbly as any other nation. It was created as a confederation in the year 2003. It was born into the no-longer-existent region of Myth Drannor. Germany-Logania was a military dictatorship who was put in charge of protection of the region. However, the nations of Myth Drannor were weak soon collapsed on each other. Soon, Myth Drannor was no more. Germany-Logania became a nation without region. Dictator Field Marshall L.J.S. became an ambassador to find a region for a home. Soon, he met with representative Big Tex of the great region of Texas. Shortly after joining Texas, the nation ran for the Texas position of Secretary of Immigration. The country soon became a proud member of the Texas Defense Forces. After a one-year stint of recruiting quality nations to Texas, trouble started to brew within the country.
A great civil war began that consumed the nation. Even though the Marshall retained control and eventually won the war, he was forced to give up his position in the government to tend to the problems of his own country. The Marshall realized that he was too much of a tyrant to his people. The nation was one of the safest and highly educated in the region. However, the people had very few civil nor political freedoms. The government launched a program to give more power to the people by creating a legislative branch and granting a full pardon to the troops on the other side of the war. By welcoming them back with open arms, the nation was re-unified. The people now have unprecedented freedoms but still enjoy one of the safest nations in the region. Laissez les bon temps rouler!!! To show their new country off, Germany-Logania began to host the Texas Baseball League. Now, as the country approaches 7 billion in population, the people prepare to celebrate Louisiana style.
