Current Info
The Kingdom of Golden sails is a huge, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare. Its hard-nosed population of 495 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, liberal government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with the Environment, although Social Welfare and Public Transport are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 49%, but much higher for the wealthy. A healthy private sector is dominated by the Information Technology industry.
Every product goes through extensive safety-testing by the government, retirement homes are often fitted with luxurious suites, abortions are routinely performed in Golden sails's hospitals, and guns are banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is moderate, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Golden sails's national animal is the dragon, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the crown.
History Before Colonization
The exact location of the original civilization of the peoples of Golden Sails before the migration to Pye is unknown because all records of its previous location were destroyed in a large fire. None of the other nations of pye have records of meeting up with this civilization, so it is commonly referred to being located in the Forgotten Realm.
This civilization was a peaceful, prosperous, elven nation known for its elegant and technologically advanced ships. It remained this way for thousands of years until around 1000 CE. It was at this time that the first dragon was spotted flying over the nation. The dragon had come from somewhere far from the west and was evidently very hungry. Over the next few months it was discovered that the dragon was the first of many to come. Millions of elves were killed and eaten. A state of chaos enveloped the nation. For a time it seemed that this civilization had come to an abrupt end. In the midst of this chaos a great leader arose who came to be known as The Black Panther. He was the last remaining black skinned elf left uneaten and he knew the only way for his people to survive was to flee in their ships east across the sea.
It was shortly after 1000 CE when the elves ships with their magnificent sails reached the land that was to become known as Pye. The first of the nations to greet the elves from across the sea were from the nation of Bambeaner. They called the new arrivals the People of the Golden Sails. From then on the name Golden sails has stuck.
History After Colonization
About a month after the new nation of golden sails was formed, a group of fishermen spotted a few dragons flying just off the coast of Golden Sails. A group of a few dragons had appeared to have followed their food source across the sea. Over the next few years there was a constant disappearing of citizens across the nation and dragon sightings were frequent. The dragons, increasing in number started migrating across pye. It was the nation of Dunnathia, who had just arrived as well, that first took action against them. Dunnathia was a nation technologically thousands of years ahead of its time. Their newly invented photon laser was put to use forcing the dragons back inside the borders of Golden Sails.
After another year of frequent disappearing, the killings came to an abrupt stop. The dragons had discovered the vast herds of buffalo in the northern plains of Golden Sails. The preferred the fat juicy buffalo to the thin stringy elves. Then a shocking and important discovery was made. It was discovered that dragons had the same amount of intelligence as the average human (or elf). The dragon's language was quickly learned and both races singed a treaty of peace. The bloody conflict had finally come to an end. For about 900 years the history of Golden Sails was pretty uneventful until about 50 years ago when there was a major economic collapse. Since then the economy has been slowly improving and recuperating.
