The Imperial Cravanian Army is the top-of-the-line fighting force in the Libertarian Empire. It currently numbers at almost six-million personnel, and is considered to be one of the top military ground forces in the world. (disputed, of course)

History

The Imperial Cravanian Army (ICA) is the oldest of the branches of the Cravanian military, dating back to the early 1600s. It is a highly trained and highly motivated fighting force, ready around the clock to deploy overseas. It has seen little action, however, instead opting for mostly surgical strikes and police actions.

Overview

The Imperial Army is designed around combined arms warfare featuring air superiority as a key asset provided by the Air Force. Infantry and armored divisions will often work hand in hand, offering defense and support to one another in the battlefield. When alone, infantry will often use guerilla tactics and ambushes to disrupt their enemies' activities, when while accompanied by heavier forces their main task is to engage and destroy incoming lightly armored threats. Never will an armored unit move unprotected by infantry.

As stated, infantry are a key aspect of the ICA's mobility. The ICA uses a divisional structure of 25,000 personnel per division, however these divisions rarely operate as one unit, usually operating independently on a platoon-sized scale while still coordinating their efforts to achieve their objectives. They will usually operate under a blanket of air cover, however if air cover is not available they will resort to more unconventional tactics. Guerilla warfare, as stated, is a key aspect of Cravanian infantry tactics, often allowing the smaller units the freedom to move undetected through heavily forested or urban areas.

Armor, on the other hand, is used for sieges and assaults, and sparingly at that. Tank platoons operate in units of four tanks, with two taking front and two covering the others, turrets facing the rear or flanks. They will often also be covered by mechanized infantry units, which allows for a degree of protection from lighter threats. Infact, never will an armored unit operate without a veil of lighter protection. It is seen as too risky to the crew and to hardware to move on without infantry support in a hostile environment, since infantry are key in providing a layer of defense against other infantry units.

When in an urban environment, roles for both armored and infantry change somewhat. Armored units take more of a supporting role, instead opting to clear large formations and buildings. Infantry usually then proceed to engage in door to door fighting, rooting out any who survive the initial assault. Urban warfare with the ICA tends to be attrition warfare-esque at times, and is usually long and drawn out. It is effective, though, and will usually ensure 100% eradication of enemy forces while leaving civilians intact, or so the doctrine states.
