Johnston Island

The Dominion of Johnston Island is a large economically strong country that is ruled by the Communist Party. Its policies are never outlined to the Public and there are many secret institutions thar are upheld to the ultimate secrecy that not even the Premier is allowed to know about.

History

The Dominion of Johnston Island goes back further in history then the name of Johnston Island does. The Island was inhabited by several Elven tribes that were constantly at war with each other and caused much destruction. Then there was one man who became the head elf of one such tribe and he set out unifying all of the Elven tribes through either tribute or conquest until he controlled most of the villages. It was then that he declared himself High Elven Overlord and forced those tribes that refused to recognize him as this ruler to submit to him by force.

Soon after his death the Elven people expanded their empire from their island to surrounding areas conquering what is now Faroe and Jan Mayan and slaughtering all those upon the Island. There were many leaders who kept up the traditions of the previous leaders for centuries all the while building great monuments around the country.

In the early 20th century after a very destructive war the people of the Dominion rose up against the Kings of the 'ForrestElves' as it was called and began a revolution. Soon the revolution was a major success as the Communist party overthrew the King and began establishing their own rule that would be the 'peoples rule'. Though the peace established by them did not last long as other revolutionaries rose up against the Communist party and the Red Army was again tested and after several years of war the Communist party crushed the Democratic Opposition. The state was then renamed to the Dominion of Johnston Island. To this day the Dominion remains one of the strongest nations in Europe and has been the beacon of true Communism since the day of revolution. The Red Army is still the Army of the Dominion of Johnston Island.

Geography

The nation is located in the far north western part of Europe. it is an island that is compltely surrounded by water. There are mountains spread all across the country but most including the highest are located in the south eastern portion of the island. Near the middle of the fall the northern waters around the island begin freezing and during the winter all the waters around the island except a small area in the southern part of the country freeze over aswell and ice breaking ships are used to ensure that trade can still continue on a massive level.

Government

The Government is currently dominated by the Communist Party of Johnston Island. The central organization responsible for passing laws inside the Dominion is the Central Committee. It also is responsible for selecting the members who will make up the Politburo and take the seats of Ministry of War, Foriegn Relations, Security, and Commerce. The Politburo then selects who will be the General Secretary of the Party. This man is the head of state, though it is unofficially.

The Premier and President of the Dominion are selected by the Politburo for long time service for the party and loyalty to the party. These positions appear to have the power inside the Dominion though this is far from the truth as they are in actuality just ceremonial positions with the General Secretary being the actual man incharge of the Dominion.

The Supreme Soviet is the only institution capable of removing the General Secretary of the Party from his position. The Supreme Soviet seats 15 members and is the highest legislative and Judicial Branch in the Government. The Supreme Soviet, and it only, has the powers to pass constitutional amendments. It also selects the Procurator General of the Soviet Union, the man incharge of enforcing the laws of the Soviet Union and reporting any Governmental body which violates such a law. Essentially the Supreme Soviet answers to the Politburo which is the higher members of the Supreme Soviet.

Ministry of War

The Ministry of War is the largest of the ministries in the Dominion. It handles all o the intelligence operations and houses the intelligence Services as a sub-ministry. The ministry of war handles all the armament requirements of the nation making sure that the military is capable of defending the fatherland aswell as the allies of the state.

The ministry employs over 4 million people into its services each with different security levels. Only 25 people in the entire country have access to security clearance X which is the highest security level in the nation. Only 1 man in the Ministry of War has that clearance and his position in the ministry is secured for life by the communist party.

Ministry of Foriegn Relations

This ministry handles all relations with the other nations of Europe. It is the smallest ministry and answers directly to the Premier on how it shall act on the foriegn scene. There is little information on this ministry since its the smallest and is only used on certain occasions.

Ministry of Security

Ministry of Security handles all the internal security of the nation. It carries out counter-espoinage missions in the event foriegn agents do manage to get into the country despite extreme measures taken to keep the states secrets secret. This Ministry monitors all foriegn nationsals from the 5 countries that are allowed to have tourists enter the country and monitors all nationals of the Dominion who leave the country to make sure they are not carrying information vital to the security of the state.

Ministry of Commerce

The Ministry of Commerce monitors all trading that the state carries on aswell as all internal economic actions. It ensures that no illegal trading activity that could hurt the state occurs and makes sure that the economy is running at peak performance. It handles all economic matters inside and outside the dominion.

Economy

The economy is free market and privatly owned in most sectors. This is to ensure that wealth is kept amongst the people instead of going to a few who will become rich and powerfull. Only the major businesses that could whipe out the competition of smaller businesses are government run so as to ensure that the smaller businesses remain open and competitive. Not only does this keep power to the people but inspires competition between government run businesses and private businesses. The Government run businesses help finance government projects on a local level that are for the people and fund schooling. This frees up the budget to be used for other things while still ensuring that the needs of the people are met. This is the first time in European history such an economic plan has been used and it is quite successful and is considered to be far more effective then any other economic system in Europe. It makes competition between businesses to inspire growth, while still ensuring that those Government industries that make billions are used for the bettering of the peoples live by giving the wealth back to people in other forms then cash.

Most of the nation is heavily industrialized to make-up for the lack of natural resources with most of the resources coming from the nations of; Caronicilia, Hispaniola, Nickolodeon, Munatan, Sapphire Ajah, Finomi, Reikstadt, and Brabant States.

Communications

There are over 3.4 Billion telephones on mainline usage. It is figured that 7 out of every 10 Islanders have atleast 1 cellphone in their family, while 4 out of 10 have more then 1 cellphone in their family.

there are several satellites for telecommunications that are owned by the state or private companies. There are over 130 broadcasting stations.

1/2 of the Country is hooked up to the Internet.

Transportation

The Dominion has an extensive highway system that connects the major cities of the nation together to make travel much easier and internal trading much easier. There is a small rail line network in the nation but it is considered highly inneffective and no effort has been launched lately to impprove its services to make it as effective as it had once been. There are 7 international airports in the nation with 3 of them being located within 30 minutes of Greater Reykjavik. Theres also several airports in the nation for cross the country transport in small aircraft.
