Liam Yule was the last President of Calumnius and leader of Socialist Alliance Army in the second great revolution. He is often considered one Calumnius's greatest sons, although celebration of any particular person is forbidden by equality laws in Calumnius.

Early Years

Yule was born on the 7th August 1840 to Hannah Yule, wife of Mark Yule. His childhood was unremarkable, he lived in the small village known then as Durghurtz (now known as Townlet-4582). He attended the local school where he met a teacher who was later to become his mentor and no doubt inspired Yule, John Steel. Yule's grades in school were never fantastic but neither were they particularly bad, he was an average student.

Time in the Military

He joined the army shortly after leaving school at 16, he fought in the newly discovered lands to the east. One account of him on Feroyda (now The Socialist Colony of Calumnius) claimed he was "as mad as a Fungstundler (a form of flying insect native to Feroyda)". It is known that he did fight in the east, piracy was still rife and an Enthalpy Change frigate attacked his ship. The Calumnius ship triumphed but not without heavy casualties. Yule later wrote that "it was then that any belief I had in violence for greater good began to fade", little did he know at the time of writing that he would be integral in the second great revolution. Yule returned from the east a minor hero being awarded the Calumnius third order of merit. He left the army at twenty after four years of service in 1860. While Yule always considered joining the army to be a mistake, it is evident that the skills learnt during his military years greatly helped him in the second great revolution.

The Wilderness Years

Yule went through a string of jobs after leaving the army, he was still somewhat haunted by his miltary experience and this hampered him when he tried to hold down a job. He soon returned back to Durghurtz to work on his father's farm. It was when he returned home that he met his old teacher, John Steel. Steel mentored Yule, it was Steel who eventually suggested in 1870 that Yule go in to politics. Yule was initially skeptical, he had no university degree, as was expected at the time and he was an agriculture worker from a small village. Steel convinced him that it did not matter and at the next Council elections Yule ran for councilship in his area under the newly formed Socialist Party.

Pre-Revolution Politics

Yule's first term in office started in 1872 and ran until 1876 when the second great revolution began. Yule rose through the political ranks at speed, he found a friend in Frederick Hanson, then Socialist Party leader. Much to the surprise of most of the party, Hanson picked Yule as his deputy in 1875 when the prior deputy, Robert Moriarty, died of Cancer.

The Second Great Revolution

The Socialist Party won a majority in the council at the 1876 elections and should have taken executive power but the prior Republican government refused to dissolve and triggered the second great revolution by asassinating Frederick Hanson and seizing control of Calumnius with a military autocracy. Yule took the lead of the Socialist party as deputy and began a popular uprising. Parts of the Calumnius army allied with Yule, won over by his powerful rhetoric. The Calumnius civil war began and four long years of bloody fighting took place. Yule led from the front, his inspiring words captivating the Socialist Alliance Army leading it to victory over the Republican army. The final battle outside Capital was won by the Socialist Alliance Army. He famously told his victorious troops, "The war is over! Calumnian will fight Calumnian no longer! Disband and return to your homes lovingly. You have saved your nation".

Presidency

Yule declared elections immediately after victory and the Socialist Party won a large majority in the Calumnius Council and Yule became President. He walked into the first council meeting after the revolution declaring, ""The revolution is over, but the revolution has just begun". Yule led to reforms in the political system, abolishing his own position as president after his allowed two terms were complete and abolished currency. One of his greatest legacies is The Calumnius Monetary Foundation, which still exists today to safeguard the Calumnius economy.
