The commonwealth of Maderona is a nation situated south of Gordinia and to a larger definition,Zara.The commonwealth of islands sits between the Gordinian penninsula and the north western Caprecian region.Maderona is a collection of island nations which have come together to form one commonwealth.The nation is known for being one of the founding nations of Caprecian civilization and is among the oldest nations in Caprecia.Maderona is also known for possesing some of the most powerful navy's in Caprecia.
History of Maderona
The founding of the Maderonan isle
Maderona started out as a group of independent island republics and kingdoms.Galatea isle alone (usually refered to as Maderona isle) consisted more than 12 kingdoms while the isle of Tobrias was split into two kingdoms,The Berniecian republic and the Nenruik kingdom. As for the rest of the islands, each had their own form laws and their own rulers and neither of these nations had the technology to ventured outside the Maderonan commonwealth besides that of the Gordinian penninsula and the Spetrean empire (Today called the Tellerian empire).The most notable and powerful of all Maderonan rulers was Sanajin Kallian of the Kallian family (Kal for short) who ruled the the Sanajin empire,which was almost a third of the Galatean isle.Considered at that time very large kingdom. The Sanajin empire was situated at the eastern end of the Galatean isle and the capital was Loagan.Sanajin had a dream of a Galatea isle under his control where nations worked under the Sanajin empire.
In 1411 A.D Sanajin ordered to triple his army and to prepare for an invasion on the western Galatean kingdoms.He would forced all Sanajin males ages 18 and over to join the army and promised his citizens riches if they complyed . The Sanajin army grew from 23,000 troops to 91,000 troops within a matter of years,over a third of Maderonas population.Sanajin knew that the Sanajonian people would run against his wishes if he continued to grow his army and the plans for an invasion were not carried out so within 3years the Sanajin empire prepared for war. In 1414 the Sanajin began massing their armies attacking first the Samilliam kingdom followed by the Emeralla republic. The western Galatean kingdoms were caught by surprise and were invaded with a matter of months.The largest loss of life to the Sanajonian army during their compaign was at the battle of Rolland,where over 21,000 Sanajonian troops died while at the hands of Rolland warriors to the northern extreme of Galatea,many historians estimate more. However the war with Rolland,the final nation,was won and the empire of Sanajin declared a first in Maderonan history,the control of the Galatean isle by one empire. Sanajin soon celebrated along with his fellow advisors and generals over the largest victory the Sanajin republic had ever made.Sanajin remained in power over his new found nation but died of Collisophus disease in 1433.His oldest son,Benji Kal would the follow his rule.
The Galatean revolution
Benji Kal at the age of 26years continued to rule of the Sanjian isle after the death of his father.In 1435 A.D Benji Kal changed the name of the Sanjian isle back the the Galatean isle.To this day it was not known why the change of name but many historians have come to the conclusion that Benji,in respect of the current nations under control,felt some compassions towards those nations,and to lower rebellion in the occupied kingdoms,changed the name back. Although this did not completely solve the anger within the occupied kingdoms. Benji Kal then attempted to continue his fathers path and take over the rest of the kindom islands,however lost the war the the berniecian republic on the Tobria isles.More than 33,000 Galatean troops died in that and it was seen as a great embarressment to ruler and his nation.Within a matter of months after that great loss ruler Benji mysteriously dissappeared.A new leader,Toruagh Kal would take over the government seat and would continue his families rule over the nation and to restore respect to the Galatean empire.
After 10years in power the Toruagh set his eyes over the rest of the commonwealth once again after his past older brother and father and began to grow his army once again to prepare for war.Within a matter of 3 years the Galatean army was 10 times their original size and consisted of mostly the former Galatean nations troops.Once again the army set out to invade Tobrias isle and succeeded in taking over the berniecian republic and the Austen kingdom.From this very victory the army went on take over the smaller kindoms ,Zendral,Grahisia and Rachean kingdoms which were left.After a 2year war between the three remaining kingdoms and the powerful Galatean army,the empire of Galatea successfully took over the nations.The rulers of KAL had restored their honor and went on to rule the new and powerful Galatean empire for another 300 years before the family rule was ended during the commonwealth revolution.
The commonwealth revolution
It had been over 100years of Kallian rule in the Galatean empire and by 1589 A.D tension among Galatean citizens grew.Many accused the Kal family of centuries of corruption during their reign over the nation.Others grew impatient over the current ruler,Eridal Kal,and accused him for his hand in the Rolland massacre and stealing funds from tax payers.Many Galatean citizens wanted to explore the outside world and want to be free in their own nation but the current government would not permit this.A new leader of the Galatean people leader,by the name of Jaramia Marxious lead protests around Galatea demanding a change in the laws of Galatea and for Eridal to be charged under law for the massacre of 1,000`s of Rollandians.
For years the people have been silent and nobody had seen a person by the likes of Marxious to stand up against the Kallian family and demand change.The Galatean army was quick to react against this rebellion and massacred 112 men and women who had protested in loagan square again the current government.Marxious quickly dissappeard never to be found by the Galatean army again.2 years after the hunt,marxious returned and with an army of 45,000 volunteers challenging the Kal family to the control of the Galatean isle.The rebel army of Marxious was greatly outnumbered.The Galatean army at that time had some 134,000 troops as opposed to the 45,000 troops of Marxious.Despite been outnumbered, the rebels managed to overcome the Galatean army and managed to reach the parliament building where the Kallian family had stayed for centuries.The ruler,Eridalm, was never found in the parliament so were the rest of the family. Despite this Marxious declared a new Galatean government in place and never bothered to hunt down the remain Kallian family members.
Marxious went on to rule the newly established government of Galatea.He declared that Galatea becomes an official democracy and brought the nation closer and more unified.The name of Galatea was changed to Maderona and officially declared the nation a commonwealth with some freedom restored to the former kingdoms but yet still under the rule of Galtea.Marxious was the first ruler to allow his citizens to leave Galatea at will to explore other parts of Caprecia and Zara.In 1604 Marxious planned and built a new capital for the newly established nation and named it Galatea,after the Galatean isle where most of the history of Maderona originated from.
Maderona went on to remain a democracy to this day.Maderona also became one of the most powerful nations because of their navy capabilities.In 1784 Maderona became Caprecias largest port nation because of its geographic location between Zara (the Gordinian pennisula) and the Caprecian mainland.
Maderona today
The Commonwealth of Maderona is a huge, safe nation, notable for its burgeoning gailey hawk population. Its compassionate, hard-working, intelligent population of 62.2 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The large government juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 24%. A substantial private sector is dominated by the Soda Sales industry.
Loans are available for students from poor families, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, organ donation rates are among the lowest in the region, and guns are banned. Crime is relatively low. Maderona's national animal is the gailey hawk, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Caprec.
Maderona today is a vibrant strong nation that is respected for possessing one of the longest democracies in Caprecia.The nation also has one of the largest navys in Caprecia and is known for their significant contribution to the Caprecian Allied army.Galatea is the largest city in Maderona,along with being the capital and is one of the major cities in Caprecia.For the first time in centuries Maderona declared so of its forests in danger by urbanisation and protection has been undertaken to tackle the problem.Currently the Corrigors tower is been built in Galatea and will become Caprecias tallest building at a hight of 611m.Development should end by later 2007.
Maderona has always been seen as a trans-nation with it partly being considered apart of Zara but in other texts Maderona is always included along with mainland Caprecia.Geographically the nation is part of Zara,to be more specific it is part of the Gordinian penninsula.Maderona along with Sapphire are considered transient nations.
Galatea itself has the largest port of any city in Caprecia with 77% of ships towards Zara stop through the Galshore ports and 23% of ships stop through Galatea each day.Neighbours of Maderona include Telleria,Sapphire isle,Kiranaca,Deus Noster and Proffesland.

Galatea isle is the largest and most population of the commonwealth islands.Tobrias comes in second with the other isle significantly smaller.Maderona holds one of the Caprecian Allied Army bases and the only other CNAD base in Caprecia.
Political and international
In august 2001 for the first time in Maderonan history the Union political party came into power and a new president,Gadrias Caleb Copeland took power of the nation.In 2007 Gadrias brough a proposal to the Maderonan government to allow the the Caprec to replace the kal dollar as Maderonas currency.Votes came in 61% to 29% with 10% undecided in favour for the new currency.The Caprec was officially allowed into the Maderonan economy and Maderonan became one of the first nations to use the currency.
Maderona is part of the North Western Caprecian bloc and currently attends annual summits along with other nations in the region every year.
Army
Maderona has a well developed army and one of the largest and most advanced navys,if not the most advanced in Caprecia.In 1955 the GAL armed forces officially changed their nations to the Maderonan commonwealth army (M.C.A) with the navy name changed to the "commonwealth navy".Two thirds of all active army troops are stationed south of Maderona on the border with the Telleria with a third of the navy and 3 air craft carriers stationed in the Caprecian straight waters.
