Nation History

The republic was formed from a revolution in 1921 after a turbulent past.

Recorded history only exists back to 1395, when a noble from a neighbouring kingdom defeated a number of tribal pagan groups which now form the area. He formed the first monarchy the nation had ever seen, using the local language of Deronian as a communcation platform.

This monarchy collapsed in 1409 and smallscale warlords once more governed flux states. The land was united in 1487 by a group of Christian preachers spreading the ways of the Roman Catholic Church and formed a united council government based on Christian fundamentalists and introduced Latin to the "Realm of Hills".

In 1499 the greatest Cathedral the country had ever seen was built, Westwells Cathedral (still standing) is built in classical European architecture from locally sourced stone from the Mendip Hills.

In 1636 a new form of goverment was developing due to the pollution of government by foreign idealism, and the aristocracy was born. Rich landowners with large estates creating great suffering and divides in society. The nation was officially renamed "The Kingdom of Westwells and Pertias" in 1638.

In 1811, the Kingdom of South Somerset (now The Armed Republic of South Somerset)attempted to invade the Kingdom of Westwells and Pertias. When the invading army suffered a crippling defeat at "The battle of Eastern Plains" the former enemy offered a permanent alliance which still stands to this day, dispite extreme revolutions in each nation. This council based constitution whilst weakened, was upheld until 1824 when a group of upper-class politicians backed by middle-class supporters formed a new semi-democratic constitution. This was as expected, a corrupt capatilist government and great suffering for the nations lower classes was further extended.

During the 1890's, there was much outcry and in 1919 a revolutionary movement was started by Yarz Ronsvict, based on communist and marxist principles. In 1921 this movement overthrew the government with mass army support and formed a new socialist republic (The Republic of Mendip District), free from corruption and menance which has held strong til this day.

Social welfare and national prosperity and paramount, with capitalism banned. There is no such thing as an aristocracy, monarchy, or class structure - all are equal. The army was restructured in 1932 to accomodate new technologies and a Navy was formed in 1933. A national airforce was not formed until 1977 when the national council declared the lack of aircraft a great weakness and potential vulnerability to the country. The Republic joined the United Nations (UN) in 1992 and has since been elected a delegate for its region.

Westwells itself is now the nations capital and is set against a fantasy backdrop of the Mendip Hills to the North, rising from 10 to 1066 feet. The Hills today are protected by national environmental laws and conservation acts and have been restored to their natural moorland state after aristocratic landscpaing and forestation in the 1760's caused significant damage to the natural ecosystems that had been undisturbed for centuries.

National Information & Statistics

Today the Hills are home to a total of 4 transmission masts, broadcasting a definitive and educational mix of national TV and Radio news, documentaries and entertainment.

On the lowlands to the South of Westwells lies th expanses of natural forest deciduous, home to the national animal, the Oxymoron, a small boar like mammal only found in Mendip District. Whilst lovable, they are wild animals and those who purposely tame or domesticate them are given a lengthy sentence in one of The Armed Republic of South Somerset's prisons. . The socialist government, whilst revolutionary is still based on strong Roman Catholic principles and decided to keep the traditional currency, the "Mendip Flint".
