The Greater Empire of Midlonia
The Greater Empire of Midlonia is a massive, safe nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, cynical population of 1.517 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Public Transport. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry.
Society and government have been organized according to a feudal hierarchy, the government seizes all major gold finds, drunk drivers are sent to rehabilitation paid for by the government, and 'Mountain Doobie' is widely regarded as the nation's favourite drink. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Midlonia's national animal is the Manta Ray and its currency is the Kronor.
