Contents
Founding
The Most Serene Republic of Murkadia was actually founded as a colony of Russia in the Territories of the Borderlands region. Over time, ties with the mother country weakened as Murkadia became far more closely linked to the surrounding nations both economically and politically. A period of political unrest in Russia gave Murkadia the opportunity to declare indepence without fear of retaliation.
The People
For the most part, Murkadians have rejected Russian political and economic systems completely while holding on to many of the religious and cultural aspects of their Russian heritage. To this day Russian Orthodox is the most dominate religion and the Russian language is the official language of the nation.

Government
The government is run by a Prime Minister elected by the Parliament for indefinite periods of time. A vote of no confidence in the Parliament will bring about elections for a new Prime Minister at any time. The Prime Minister and their cabinet essentially run the nation. Parliament controls the laws of the nation, but the Prime Minister can exert quite a bit of power on his own in this area through Executive Orders (which can in turn be overriden by the Parliament). Members of Parliament are elected every 4 years in single member district pluralities.
