History
The United Socialist States of Neo-Rus is a grand experiment by the self proclaimed socialist god and Sovereign of all Eternia, Premier Vladamir Lenin II (FKA John Williamson of The Confederacy of the Liberal Men and Women) Vlad II founded Neo-Rus in an attempt to bring alive the ideals of the of the late Lenin, of which he had only read in the myths of the other world.
Economy
The economy of Neo-Rus has proven troublesome. There is an average income tax at an astounding rate of 99%, which is ruining most industry in the country. The only thing keeping its people from starving is their reliance on the social welfare system, which is itself being pushed to the limits. There is an astounding 26% unemployment rate, and government corruption is rampant, with the largest single piece of the government budget lining the pockets of the bloated government itself. Yet despite its difficulties, and the recent economic implosion, there is a powerful Uranium mining export industry.
Neo-Rus has only just begun to recover from it's economic implosion, and is still struggling.
Law Enforcement
Law enforcement is the second highest funded section of the government, receiving a full 15% of the national budget, which amounts to ~424 million neo rubles. However, thanks to the large funding, the shared ideals of the community, and policy of criminal deterrence, crime is all but completely unknown.
The policy of criminal deterrence is one of cruel executions, including live burning, drowning, and starvation, and is used for everything more severe than littering. Torture is also used for the less serious crimes.
Military
Neo-Rus has a standing army of only 100,000 men, armed with weapons varying from poor condition AK-47s, to simple pistols, to farm implements, due to the small budget. The military receives 9% of the budget, which amounts to ~254 million neo rubles. Every man in the country is required to sign up for the draft at age 13, and must have exclusive access to some form of weapon to bring with him, allowing the country's military to swell to ~4.5 million at a moments notice thanks to the non-existent training program. Women are not allowed in the military at all, not because they are considered worse than men, but instead so they can continue to keep industry going if the draft is instituted.
The military's budget is spent primarily on, not the soldiers or their weapons, but instead on utilizing the strong Uranium mining industry. As of yet, Neo-Rus has no nuclear program, but does use a form of dirty bomb. Due to the lack of missiles or bombers, these bombs must be carried into battle by the soldiers, and have proved rather ineffective in live ammunition trials.
Despite all of this, Neo-Rus's military is ranked 3rd of 5 in Eternia, primarily due to the fact that the 2 beneath it have no actual military and instead use a para-military police force for national defense.
Recent Decisions
Vlad II's first act was to create a law condemning democracy, and making it permanently illegal within the borders of Neo-Rus, which he sees as all of Eternia. He has yet to convince most of the other countries in Eternia of this definition of his borders.
A recent decision was handed done to increase the military budget, due to increasing pressure of Neo-Rus's two much more powerful neighbors, the oppressed People of Liilte China and the Principality of the Daes Dae-Mar.
Succession
Vlad II, fas learned one thing from the mistake of his idol, and has clearly chosen a successor. His successor, is his first son, Vice Premier Leon Trotsky II, as opposed to Leon's brother Josef Stalin II or sister Yoko Ono.
