Introduction

Nevareion is a Co-Founder of the region of Q102

Overview

Nevareion is a land of contrasts. From the rainy mountainous mainland of the north, via the warm and fertile plains to the sun kissed islands that ring the coast.

The capital, Nevareia is a bustling port city, dotted with ancient churches, mysterious ruins of an ancient civilisation that are towered over by the skyscrapers of the modern centre. The picturesque medieval quarter is full of alleyways and twisting narrow streets, filled with tavernas, bars and family owned small shops. The Grand Market is one such area in the oldest part of the city where street traders hawk their wares to the throngs of locals and tourists, filling the air with their cries.

The people are renowned for loving a good argument, which is the favourite way of passing the hot midday hours in a café or bar. Foreigners often mistake these for real disputes but the Nevareies see them as a good-natured way of passing the time. The average citizen loves tradition and young and old alike keep up the centuries old festivals, sayings and religion. Despite this they are a tolerant and friendly people who value hospitality to strangers. As a result Nevareion is a favourite holiday destination for many who come to enjoy its history and culture.

The Government has recently begun to encourage the country to focus on modern technologies and industries, turning their creative efforts towards the future as well as the past. As a result the country has a thriving industry based on computer programming and film graphics.

The people work hard but feel that their leisure time is vital. Many families will return to their ancestral villages in the countryside during holidays, retiring to beaches off the tourist map and the mountains in the hottest part of the year. Families live with several generations together and small family businesses are the norm with large chain stores and factory farms a rarity.

The language has its roots in that spoken by the earliest human settlers here and has a musical sound. It lends itself equally well to poetry, argument and swearing and the Nevareies are extremely proud of it, seeing it as a link with their illustrious but distant past.

See your travel agent now to book a holiday in this land of contrasts. Whether it is a walking holiday in the peace of the mountains or a family break on one of the island resorts, Nevareion has something for you!

Nevareia

The capital, Nevareia is a bustling port city, dotted with ancient churches, mysterious ruins of an ancient civilisation that are towered over by the skyscrapers of the modern centre. The picturesque medieval quarter is full of alleyways and twisting narrow streets, filled with tavernas, bars and family owned small shops. Hasarian Conference Centre

The internationally renowned Hasarian Conference Centre is available for corporate events and inter-governmental conferences. The complex, situated on the beautiful island of Karias, includes luxury hotels, the ancient theatre of Govos where the National Theatre often presents modern and ancient plays and the conference centre itself which is fitted with the latest hi-tech translation and video conferencing facilities. The Nevareies Government is pleased to provide security through the The Nevareies Army special forces and the secluded nature of the island means that they are happy to stake their reputation on the safety of visiting heads of state.

The Army of Nevareion

The Ancient Army

The Nevareies Army has a long and honourable history. In ancient times the core of the army was the Hoplite with his long spear. This formidable soldier when used in large formations gave the Nevareies culture early stability and safety, allowing the later flooring of ancient culture.

This reliance on the Hoplite was to prove a weakness in later times as neighbouring nations developed more advanced tactics while the Nevareies became hidebound an d reluctant t change. The position of the Hoplite in society as great warrior hero proved a barrier to change and this lead to the sacking of the capital city 1400 years ago. This was a disaster that the Nevareies culture and army took a long time to recover from.

The Renaissance Era

It wasn't until 350 years ago that the Nevareies once more had an army worthy of the name. This time the key was the mounted Hussars with their fast and mobile tactics and sabers. A series of campaigns over the folowing 100 years led to Nevareion recovering much of the territory that had been taken and a renaissance of national pride and identity folowed.

The Battle of Anduk was the decisive moment when the independance of the nation was finally re-established. It is commerorated in a famous tapestry which now hangs in the National Gallery.

The Last Century

The Nevareies cavalry continued to be a major element of the army until rendered obsolete by the advance of technology. The Hussars gave way to the Yeomen Cavalry, mounted riflement able to fight and shoot from horseback or to dismount and fight as skirmishers.

These were backed up by a large infantry that became the backbone of the army to this day. The infantry Were the single largest part of the army and their greatest moment came in the wars of the last century. As the army changed from a conscript to a volunteer army, so the level of training and fighting ability of the infantryman increased.

The modern infantryman is well equiped, motivated and trained. The Nevareies army these days is almost exclusively used in UN Peace Keeping missions and nationl defence. They are backed up by tanks, APCs and ornithopters. The army is set up to be a modern flexible fighting force and is rightly proud of its long history.
