General Overview

The Holy Empire of New Basilica is located in the Central Pacific and consists of 2 large atolls called Coruna atoll and Cavona. The capital city, Cavon is located on Cavona and has a population of around 400,000. There are also two smaller atolls called Sovos and Carapuna. New Basilica is rich in natural resources such as oil and precious metals, but New Basilica itself only consumes 2% of its oil production, the rest being exported overseas. This is mainly because of the restrictions on cars. New Basilica is strictly Nuclear free and is home to the Holdman Corporation

Economy&agriculture

Despite the governments' strict laws on industry, New Basilica has managed to sustain a stable economy, mainly because of the abundance of natural resources. One exception is agriculture, which struggles due to the mountainous landscape and animal cruelty and conservation laws. New Basilica imports 60% of its food consumption, 20% coming from fishing.

New Basilican Military

The New Basilican military is made up of three armed forces - the navy, the airforce, the police and the army, with an emphasis of funds on the navy and police. All three branches have their headquarters in the Joint Arms HQ in Cavon. New Basilica possesses no NBC weapons as it is primarily a defence/peacekeeping force. (note to phoenix dynamix- I have not actually purchased all the stuff because I am still drawing up what I need.)
New Basilican Navy
The New Basilican Navy mainly consists of Phoenix Dynamix ships such as the Vrelck Class Battlecruiser which is the largest ship in the navy. The navy has no submarines or nuclear powered ships other than the Vrelck Class but has an emphasis on light craft such as hovercraft which can easily move around inside the coral reefs.
New Basilican Airforce
The New Basilican Airforce also mainly consists of Phoenix Dynamix products but also fields a few local designs.
New Basilican Army
The New Basilican Army has a mixture of Phoenix Dynamix, RL and locally designed units.
New Basilican Police
The New Basilican Police force is unusual in that it is legally allowed to use any weapon calibre up to 100mm. Although high-caliber use is very rare, it has allowed the police to become more potent and able to respond to armed threats better.

History

The nation of New Basilica was settled in 1848 by Italian settlers and named Basilica. They originally landed at Coruna Atoll and founded the towns of Coruna and Santasiera. They then spread out all over Coruna Atoll and founded many more small towns.

In 1939 with the outbreak of WW2, Basilica was used as a naval base by the Japanese and a local Italian militia force was recruited to defend the island. A large force of Germans were also sent to the island. The US bombed the naval base many times, but after the Japanese invasion of Hawaii the Americans were in no position to threaten the island. Then came the Italian surrender in 1943, the Japanese occupied the island and used it as a prison camp for allied POWs.

Dissent was rife among the civilian population, and the Japanese were having a hard time keeping it all under control. In 1945 Germany surrendered, and then in 1947 a truce was arranged between the Japanese and the Americans after the use of a nuclear missile against the Japanese mainland. The Japanese continued to occupy the island until 1949 when a rebellion was led by a man named Marco Cavona.

The rebellion spread like wildfire until the whole of Basilica was liberated. The allied POW’s were released but could not leave the island because of Japanese blockades. The Japanese tried to retake the island in 1955 and then again in 1968. Both times they were fought off by the determined locals with their superior knowledge of the land. To this day the government of Basilica is not recognized by the Japanese.

In 1961 the Island of Cavona (named after the famous revolutionary) was settled and the first natives of Basilica were discovered and integrated into Basilican society. The history of Basilica is rather empty up to 1979 when Emperor Jonathan I took power and renamed Basilica The Holy Empire Of New Basilica and declared the country and government officially Christian. This move was supported by the mainly Christian population of New Basilica because the former government had refused to do so.

Emperor Jonathan I was regarded as a threat by the Japanese because of the leadership he held over the population and they had him assassinated in1983. The next emperor, Jonathan II was a bad ruler and was disposed, to be replaced with Emperor Jonathan III in 1987 who ruled to 2005 when he retired and the current Emperor took power, Emperor Jonathan IV
