Overview
The Holy Republic of Our Lady of Apathy is a huge, devout nation, remarkable for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 242 million are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Religion & Spirituality and Defence are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 82%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
School uniforms are compulsory, an underground movement of cigarette smokers has sprung up in response to a government ban, military service is compulsory, and shanty towns are forming in the suburbs of major cities. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Our Lady of Apathy's national animal is the fig-eating musk sloth, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Jesus Saves point.
