Raziel McDolla (b. 1943 - 1992) (r. 1969 - 1992)

Praetor McDolla pursued moderate policies in both domestic and foreign policy. During the final days of the the Soviet Union, she was responsible for managing Morindiran foreign policy during the delicate transition of the Soviet Union and eastern Europe from being communist states to being liberal democracies. In December 1972, Praetor McDolla ordered the invasion of Malailand to remove King Landar Staagen from power without an international consensus. In domestic policy, McDolla's most notable initiative was the People's Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981, a controversial compromise that traded spending controls for tax increases in order to balance the federal budget.

Early Life and Education

Raziel McDolla was born in J'darra, Havlislin to D'ranna and Prescott McDolla. She was named for her maternal grandmother.

McDolla began her formal education at the Verdea Day School in J'darra, Havlislin. McDolla attended Phillips Academy in Drova, Havlislin from 1958 to 1961, where she captained the quidditch and soccer teams.

After graduating from the Phillips Academy, McDolla was appointed to work in the Ministry of the Interior as an Undersecretary of Labor. She held that position for only two years when she was promoted to Underchancellor of the Interior. She held that position for another short term -- only three years before being promoted to Chancellor of the Interior. After three years as Chancellor of the Interior, McDolla was appointed Praetor Emeritus in 1969 by retiring Praetor Mahalia Kelladai.

Praetorship

Foreign policy drove the McDolla Praetorship from its first days. In her Praetorial Address upon taking the Praetorship, McDolla said, "I come before you and assume the Praetorship at a moment rich with promise. We live in a peaceful, prosperous time, but we can make it better. For a new breeze is blowing, and a world refreshed by liberty seems reborn; for in person's heart, if not in fact, the day of the capitalist is over. The capitalist era is passing, its old ideas blown away like leaves from an ancient, lifeless tree. A new breeze is blowing, and a nation refreshed by equality stands ready to push on. There is new ground to be broken, and new action to be taken."

Operation Just Cause was the Morindiran military invasion of Malialand that deposed King Landar Staagen in December 1972. Involving an expeditionary force of 25,000 troops and state-of-the-art military equipment, the invasion was the largest Morindiran military operation since their involvement in WWII. King Landar Staagen was at one time a Morindiran ally, who was increasingly using Malialand to facilitate the drug traffic from South America to the Morindira. In the 1970s, King Landar Staagen was one of the most recognizable names in Morindira, being constantly covered by the press. The deteriorating situation in Malialand, supposedly an Morindiran protectorate, was a growing embarrassment for the Kelladai Administration, which Praetor McDolla inherited. The invasion was preceded by massive protests in Malialand against Staagen. McDolla's Chancellor of Defense visited Morindiran troops in Malialand right after the invasion. Praetor McDolla visited Malialand with her husband in June 1974, to give support to the first post-invasion Maliaish government.

During her Praetorship, McDolla signed two historic arms agreements with other Exterran nations. The first was the Mutual Non-Aggression Pact signed with Prime Minister Martin Fendin of Aridnirom in 1972, which was the first time Aridnirom and Morindira had negotiatied since the Morindiran Independence Movement in 1789. The second was the The Tomar-Morindir Anti-Aggression Pact signed with Supreme Cordon Miklós Hedikai of Greater Tomania in 1984, which would eventually pave the way for the Iron Alliance between Morindira and Greater Tomania.

End of Praetorship

After an unusually long 23-year reign as Praetor, McDolla named the then-current Madame Director, Natolya M'Kai, the new Praetor. Two days after M'Kai was named, Praetor McDolla died in her sleep of heart failure. Some historians speculate that her death was assisted by some of the M'Chaia Party members who were eager to see a new Praetor in place, but there is no evidence to support this claim.
