The Rugby Premier League (RPL) is a new international rugby league that began play in 2006. The league currently has 13 nations participating comprising a total of 32 teams.

History

The RPL was formed in 2006 directly following the 4th Rugby World Cup (RWC) which was held in the nations of Aust, Starblaydia, and PopularFreedom. Three towns from PopularFreedom, led by the owners of the Camelot Wasps, approached the RWC champions from Aust with a proposal to form a joint league between them. As the negotiations continued, other nations expressed interest until 32 teams had signed up to participate in the first season of the RPL.
