The Sarzonia-Chacor border dispute arose after Sarzonia returned to Atlantian Oceania after a brief stint outside the region. People found Chacorans living in their homes, as a number of Chacorans flooded the north of Sarzonia from the southern section of Chacor claiming the land as their own.

The official number of Chacorans who occupied the land formerly held by Sarzonia is disputed: Chacor claims the number as no more than 1,500, but Sarzonia claimed the number was closer to 150,000. The motive for this is not clear; it probably stemmed from the fact that it used to be the whole of Chacor was part of Sarzonia, and the settlers felt that they had not been given the full extent of their land.

The dispute began when Sarzonia demanded that Chacor call its settlers back across the previous border and Chacor refused, citing its constitution. Incensed, the Sarzonian government began a military buildup, calling up its reserves and preparing to launch an invasion to reclaim the land it said was taken from them. Meanwhile, both Sarzonia and Chacor asked the Atlantian Oceania Regional Defence Organisation (AORDO) for its help.

Led by Legalese, the Federation of Like-Minded States (FLMS), of which Chacor is a member, attempted to mediate the dispute before shots were fired, but Sarzonia accused Chacor of imperialism and resumed preparations for hostile action. The situation nearly went from bad to worse courtesy of provocative statements by Latao, an FLMS member until it was ejected from the Alliance. Eventually, an offer of land by Chacor's recently minted northern neighbours and a negotiation between Chacor and Sarzonia brought the tensions to a lull.

However, another source of tension resulted when Chacor ignored Sarzonia's requests to include its other neighbour, Ryloss, in talks. Chacor accused Ryloss of sending its expatriates into concentration camps, a claim angrily denied by Sarzonian President Mike Sarzo.

Tensions eventually heated up again when Chacor consistently refused to give Ryloss access to information regarding the tensions between the countries in spite of Sarzo's insistence. Ultimately, Chacor offered a settlement where they would arrest the Chacoran expatriates and return the disputed territory to Sarzonia, a move called for by the Regional Council and supported by AORDO. The two nations had one final brush with war when Sarzonia amassed its armies near the Chacoran border and sent several Fleets off Chacor's coastline. Citing Sarzonian heritage, Chacoran President Tommy Douglas flew to Woodstock to meet with Sarzo, who held a declaration of war in his hand. When Douglas convinced Sarzo to end the tensions, the Sarzonian leader tore up the declaration of war and instructed the Sarzonian forces to stand down.
